Good thing Renault has 15% now, which leaves nissan to make most of the decisions for themselves.

Maybe the Japanese government should just bail them out and buy them out in a 5-10 year restructuring deal that includes firing all of management and restructuring that mess. Then setup a plan for Nissan to buy itself back from the government and be independent again under full Japanese control.

imho,,
the true winner from this alliance is Renault

Renault get leaps on technicality, technologies and expertise from Mitsubishi and Nissan

while Nissan and Mitsubishi probably just receive money from Renault, which was they desperately need

this video and journalism covers up that the stake of 28.4% that renault lost from its original 43.4% is held in a french trust. It also says that this 28.4% stake that is held in a french trust will not be sold to any other outside investor unless renault wanted to. Meaning it is just a sham shake up. that "french trust" behind closed doors is most likely still controlled by the same frenchmen that control renault.

While it says that they now only have 15% voting rights to nissan it also says that it's previous 43.4% of voting power for nissan's board of directors won't be changed unless renault tells the "french trust" to sell the stake. meaning they still hold a majority of who runs nissan. Unless renault tells the french trust to sell the stake it will still hold that 28.4% forever. so in short nothing really changed.

This alliance is so heavily favored towards renault that the only reason why nissan hasn't already pulled out is because the board of directors of nissan are mostly voted by renault. Obviously the people they want to be on the board of nissan are the ones that won't dissolve this unfair and unequal alliance. Shame on Renault and shame on Nissan for not taking control and ending this sham alliance already.

In South Africa, Nissan runs an under utilised manufacturing plant while Renault is selling lots and lots of imported models. If they can share plants and dealerships to reduce import duties and sales costs, they'd stand a chance against a wave of Chinese autos.

What they're not mentioning is that the Japanese Government tried to force a Merger between Honda and Nissan in 2019. The Japanese Government offered Honda an interest-free loan to buy back Nissan shares from Renault. After three meetings with Nissan, Honda executives said they could NOT fix the internal problems at Nissan that would be left behind by Renault. Honda quickly ran from that negotiation.

Nissan quality sure went downhill since the Renault partnership. Nissan used to make reliable vehicles, right up there with Toyota & Honda. Nowadays Nissans are absolute rubbish & as Scotty Kilmer would say, "Endless money pits as they age".

This should have been resolved years ago, but better late than never. I'm happy that Nissan is finally getting more freedom, especially since they are larger than Renault as a whole globally and have a major presence in the US, where Renault has been absent for over 30 years, although Renault's Alpine brand is planning on coming to the US by 2027 or 2028. This will be a huge milestone as it will mark the first time an actual French car brand has sold cars in the US since Peugeot's exit in the early 90s. Hopefully, the Renault brand will return to the US as well.
