Vietnam - Tunnel Rats

my dad was a rat 67-68 25th infantry

my neighbor is vet from Vietnam just turned 70 years old and some nights you can hear him screaming and yelling its so bad at times my husbend has to go over there to calm him down and resure him it's going to be okay
the place they call Vietnam was hell for them I heard stories from my neighbor and believe me it wasn't nice can't believe it

My uncle was a Marine. He wanted to fight in vietnam but he was a short statured guy and got stuck as an assistant. but he told me about this guy he heard of getting lowered into a tunnel legs first and they started stabbing and they casserated the guy. he says he doesnt know what happened to him but he did survive

job of tunnel rat is literally my worst nightmare I would be more afraid of getting stuck in there than being shot i feel like panicking when i feel enclosed in tight spots. I was scuba diving in the bahamas witht this tiny dive master lady leading us and she took us into a cave in the reef about 60 ft down and my shoulders and tank were scraping the side of the cave oh my god i was freaking out i was the last one in the group and thought that i would get stuck and nobody would notice I forced myself through and came out with shredded skin on my shoulders.

Not sure how people ever expected that Vietnam was about driving the Vietnamese out of Vietnam. That’s why they think we lost. I think the fact that the Cold War ended in our favor proves we won. It was about defeating the spread of communism after all.

I wish there was more of this on history channel. There's too much mindless tv now.

I've been 120 feet along one of the tunnels at Cu Chin in Vietnam. Just being down there made me uncomfortable and claustrophobic - I simply cannot imagine the level of bravery required to engage in combat in such conditions.

Please tell the families of the dead and wounded why Americans did not use flame throwers instead of going into the tunnels.

My father's a Marine and he did his time in Vietnam he was a Tunnel Rat he killed alot of them little MFs and he's still tourmented by it he has his reliving moments that was a war we weren't supposed to be in Fuck LBJ but to all the Marines and service men Semper Fi Do or Die Ooh-Rah!!!!

Were any ARVN soldiers used as Tunnel Rats? There 's not a single article or film of ARVN or Montagnard used as tunnel rats. If there where any ARVN soldiers attached to US forces, I would think that there were be no need for "volunteering" to be a tunnel rat, you send them in instead. That would be the practical thing to do, they were small, quick and spoke the language and it was their country to fight for. IF there were any ARVN tunnel rats where's their story?

My dad was a flight surgeon in Nam. They later sent him to the vet hospital in San Diego. I asked him what was the worst injuries you treated? He said believe it or not it was a puncture from the shit covered bamboo spike traps they had planted all over the jungle. He said the shit on the end would infect the wound so bad that they would have to keep cutting more of the wound out or amputate the injured limb. The infection spread so fast. Those injuries were hard for the patient too. They would be greatly sick and fevered from the infections and no hope of improving if the infection spread too far.

Go home G.I.! You government lied to you. The real heroes are the ones digging and hiding 15 days in those tunnels.
