Matt's Supreme Killer Instinct Retrospective

I'm at EVO right now and was watching the KI Exhibition Event, just to see Max appear on the big screen and help announce that Killer Instinct 2013 is getting a 10th Anniversary Balance Update! Along with technical bumps on Xbox Series S/X! He didn't tell me SHIT about this update! lol 2nd time in a row covering a semi-dormant franchise has resulted in some new announcements soon after! Power Stone/Rival Schools/Bloody Roar next please?

My fighting game Rushmore: Street Fighter, Bloody Roar, Killer Instinct, Capcom vs Marvel (all of em).

I remember the black SNES cartridge and bonus Killer Cuts CD. I was a kid & my big bro was masterful at Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat. But I kicked his butt on Killer Instict! All had to do was mash buttons & rock out 😂

I remember going to a close friend of my mom's and playing KI with her son, he was years older older than me and beat my ass but the character designs and setpieces were so iconic. I never realized we were playing KI until now.

my first time KI was on a park, i steped into the arcade room and the first thing i heared was " C-C-COMBO BREAKER " i thought in an instant, what " combo " combos are on fighting games but what that " breacker " sound, i approched the KI borne guys was playing and one used Orchid against saberwulf, he lost by Saberwulf performing an Ultra combo, it was soo insane, i didn't have money as a kid but i standed there about 6 hours watching teenagers playing, a game never never caught my attention this much not even any street fighter or Mortal kombat,

there was many people around and guys spending all their money hoping finishing the game and also trying to perform an Ultra, most of them didn't play 1 vs 1 just because if you loose it gets expenssive and because all wanted to see the ending only 1 vs cpu was the goal for hours.

Eyedol was a nightmare. LOL

in my opinion KI look soo good that it dosen't need a new release with more grafik improovement, just keep going adding more stuff into it, characters, costumes will be enough for next 5 years

Replace Virtua Fighter with Killer Instinct, and you have my Mount Rushmore of fighting games.

I love killer instinct gold because when I was a kid saberwulf was the only character in a fighting game who I could do a finisher with.

Man i used to get high everday and go stomp at the arcade KI was so revolutionary, and the sound was also.

KI is my goat, when i heard that it was going to reboot on the xbox i was quite excired, once i saw it playing i made my decision and bough the origina arcade cabinet instead, the lighting is still disapointing today. Especially after the U64 lie lol. You mentioned the medallion, i bought the chrome wristwatch from the N-gear catalog. I dont think anyone else bought it haha

I sometimes daydream they would announce a switch port for KI 2013

For me, it's Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat and Smash Bros

Usually when I think about what games I actually played on the SNES as I didn't have the classics (like Super Mario World or Link To The Past) I usually come up with the Mortal Kombats and WWF Raw and WrestleMania Arcade Game. But I've actually sank many many hours into Killer Instinct as well.

This was the first game I could win at lol.

This was the game that got me into the genre. I'm a very casual fan of most fighters; they never held my attention for too long, but when I discovered Max when KI 2013 got super huge, that was such a special moment in time for me. Killer Instinct got me in 95, and it got me again nearly 20 years later. I never played the 2013 version, but I watched countless hours of it. The combo videos were so fun because the announcer was so hype.

The latest Killer instinct was the reason why o bought XBox one.

KI2 is still my personal favorite fighting game. I have the Game Frans KI2 strategy guide and GampePro #92 with Jago and Glacius on the cover in my magazine archives. I used to have the SNES game (but the Killer Kuts CD survived to this day). Thank you for putting together such a wonderful tribute to the great third triforce piece of mid-90s fighting game series (SF2 and MK2 were the others, obviously)

You had to have some seriously fast hands/fingers to chain combos in KI. One of my most favorite combo systems in any fighting game.

The main issue with Killer Instinct is that it's always ONLY on ONE console NES only then N64 only now on Xbox ONLY if they ever release KI multi platform with or without preferably with cross play Killer Instinct would stand shoulder to shoulder with Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat

...the Original Ki '' .... was perfection !! ..,, ... ...if they would do a good job !! ..= with real Dangers =fatalities=finishers ,, and real Ultimates = it will be a masterpiece !! .. and bringing to PS ,, .... after all this years =could be a real competitor for MK !!......

I have distinct memories of being 7 years old, playing Killer Instinct at my buddies house. The 90’s were the best.

Since Matt was too civil to say it, i will; the SF6 soundtrack is audible diarrhea and will give you herpes if you listen to it too long.

I sucked ass at fighting games (SF2 was especially frustrating for me) but I got to play KI during its arcade release, waiting in 30min lines to get my ass beat by grown ass men. Because I didn't lose AS BAD as MK, SNK, and Capcom arcades, it hooked me. The presentation and style didn't hurt, either. Got to play it to competency on SNES, but the real big surprise for me was my abilities on KI2 arcade!

Using an arcade stick for me was always about mashing every button with vague QC motions; but in KI2, I felt comfortable, aware of combo linking and spacing. I'll never forget the days I racked up 10-20 win streaks as a 16yr old at Tampa's Uni Square Mall after school. KI2 was a rush to play and I wish I could relive it with all the great fighting games, like SF6, at a local arcade.

These KI/2 units were something special in arcades when I was a kid... The soundtrack, graphics, fmv, and they always seemed a bit louder than other machines so you could hear them from all over. To me these felt special to play even though I wasn't much good at KI

I was literally watching the older KI video ft Max and then this was recommended. So here I am back on the McMuscles KI train 😂

KI has a special place in my life, I knew the existance of it through a mexican gaming magazine called "Club Nintendo" which was one of few that could be found in my country, Chile. When I saw the renders I was completely blown away but it took me 2 years to watch and listen to the arcade machine !!! at that moment I fell in love with it and having the arcade version at home, was the strongest reason for getting an Xbox One :)
