Good video! I love to see people using wood chips; I have used them for mulch, a bottom layer in a raised bed, and for compost. I would add a few tips, though. Mixing the wood chips with nitrogen-rich material is a great start for compost, but it will work faster if you turn the pile, and cover it to keep the moisture in. You can certainly just leave the pile alone, but it will take much longer to compost. Similarly, shredding leaves helps quite a bit. Without it, the leaves can tend to flatten into mats, and it slows the decomposition. Finally, if you are getting horse manure (or any other manure), it's essential to find out if the horses have been fed hay that was sprayed to kill broadleaf "weeds." Some of those herbicides persist in the hay, in the manure of animals fed that hay, and in the compost made from that manure. Compost containing those herbicides will kill the plants in your garden, and will persist in the soil, sometimes for years. If the people don't know how their hay was grown, don't use it.

Bags of shredded pine bark mulch is an easy way to compost wood chips, I use it on newly planted areas because it breaks down quickly. I chipped up all the brush on our property and sprinkle the hardwood into green material and it helps the compost COOK even if its just grass clippings or corn stalks.. There is no MIRACLE ingredient to having a great garden, the Soil Food Web is the answer.

If you put meat scraps into your compost. It will bring unwanted pests. Meets grabs do not break down fast enough for it not to attract these unwanted pests. Just throw them away throw in everything else the lady said but don't put in the meat scraps and meat bones. You'll have things that you don't want around your house. I truly dig this video I subscribed to your channel. Good job

No dig, no till is natural, i.e., what nature does! Emulate it! For example, in the fall, most people throw away their most valuable plant nutrients, e.g., fallen tree leaves/wood chips. Leaves break down best shredded, but that is often done by others who then put them on the curb. Retrieve and spread them, minimum 4" up to 2' deep, keep moist, open to the air, everywhere you want to increase soil fertility. Do it now, before people wise up and recycle them. Don't waste a season! This beats composting because it is much, much easier, more effective, therefore a better use of time.
If you have no such resource, plant a winter cover crop, but NEVER let the ground go unprotected by growth.
For a truly radical growing plan, use every inch of ground to produce food, one way or another. A lawn is a waste of space.
Be frugal, be wise, be independent in every way, but most of all, in your own beliefs, despite what the majority believe. It's self-help, self-defense. You can be a mentor, a beacon of reason in a world of darkness.

Gardening will provide you new knowledge, healthy food, you will help your economic development, avoid markets and suspicious quality food, you will be smarter as you will have time to think and not to watch TV or social networks that make you brainwashed. You will also create or maintain hot body and substitute gym with fresh air.
Yes. You can see all of this in video. Now you can just start living with nature and take care about you and your family.

Good video! Good example of a lady working in the garden. In Buenos Aires it is almost impossible for me to dismantle the idea that men must be the ones who work in the garden...it is thought that it is something of muscular people...for me it is very interesting and gratifying except for the prejudices that surround me. Greetings!

We use about 6 inches of wood chips between the beds where we bury kitchen scraps as the season progresses. At the end of the growing season, I screen the wood chip walkways adding the mulch to the beds and the material that is screened out to the compost pile. Refill the walkways and repeat.

I've watched this video twice now, and it's inspired me greatly to take over soil production on our suburban land. We're in Brisbane, Australia, which is about the same distance from the equator as Orlando, Florida...so hopefully whatever works for you will work for us as well! We let our garden get away from us over the past few years and now we're taking great joy in getting it back into a proper working order, including a lot of tree/shrub trimming and then shredding everything we can that we've cut down. I'd already appointed myself the Compost King of our place (my wife handles the finer stuff, and I do the brute force stuff!), but now I'm gonna be the Soil Baron as well!
