Sure, there was corruption in the Nixon Administration, but nothing like working with Twitter to suppress a laptop scandal in order to interfere with the 2020 election.

Interesting, at 47-49 minutes, where Redford describes the 17-18 seconds of a blank screen; ironically chimes with 18 minutes missing from one of the Watergate Tapes!

In the end, Nixon had the two redeeming qualities Trump does not have — a sense of personal shame and an authentic love for his country. How noble Nixon’s resignation now appears when compared to a president who refuses to concede an election loss, even at the risk of destroying the republic.

'That book' reads like a typewriter hammering it out.
From the burglary the BBC Radio put out an almost daily bulletin. Then it became more than a bulletin. I used an earpiece every morning as I walked the dog.

The thing i know is true is nixon and his cronies truly felt above the law. Civil unrest they loathed. How dare a long haired hippie smoke a J while they got wasted on booze. That u will die in vietnam cuz i said so oh and my kids aint goin. Still nixon was more learned and had more manners than say our last pres. By a country mile too. Triky dick did fall though and rightfully so.

These are the types of journalists i grew up used to, not todays journalism, (copy& paste jobs) i also adore Redford watched all his films.
For some presidential legacies i'd pay cold hard cash to see a blockbuster movie about. Lol

Frightening how news has morphed into rant and cant...social platforms have supplanted traditional media sources as outlets for what is happening to us daily. Hyperbole and anger and opinion have replaced reasoned reportage. Not even rules of grammar are honored. I pity the generations to come who'll never know what good journalism can do.

The Internet: as a new medium in the Social Media Landscape, it's important to use a broad brush to create the diameters on this format. I suggest a broad brush so enough people have the opportunity to recognize and develop opinions of the format. As in many news stories, the facts are separated from the opinions, by the writer's slant. By stating the facts first, the reader will have a better read of what the situation might be.
This is the best way to describe the marriage of the news and the internet. Readers have become spoiled and rely on news personalities for what they believe to be true. If voters don't vet our candidates, people like Donald Trump happen.

All the Presidents Men is one of my all-time favorite films....I've read the book many times and seen the film over 10 times! The film never gets old and is a fantastic depiction of one of the darkest times in our nation's history. Oh, wait! I take it back, I'll wait for the film about the January 6th insurrection.

Woodward & Bernstein are arrogant, self-absorbed and corrupt liberal hacks; they have zero credibility. They are washed up anyway - no one under 75 years old would remember their lies anyway. These people are in love with themselves and completely out of touch with America.

Robert Redford put words to what I've been thinking: America doesn't learn from the past. We keep repeating the same scandals over and over. This apparently was posted in 2012. Nearly ten years later, it's as if nothing has been learned. Nearly everyone in Congress is in the CYA, get re-elected at all costs business , very few, if any, have the courage to really be statesmen, and the country is being torn apart.

The first letters of the typewriter on white paper in the opening seconds sounding like gunshots are bookended with the last seconds of the film when the 21 gun salute of Nixon being sworn in and that sound is overtaken with the sound of typewriter keys. Brilliant

These sanctimonious morons yapping about Nixon and he was a saint compared the the criminals like the Clintons, Joe Biden, Obama and virtually every top bureaucrat at the FBI, DOJ and CIA. Nixon is an eternal scapegoat and distraction used cynically and arrogantly by the Left to deflect attention from the organized criminal activity they engage in on a daily basis. It’s the same with Joe McCarthy who has been smeared by Democrats and the Left for 60+ years for accurately calling out the vast, subversive Communist element in the Democrat party, government, media and Hollywood. For decades McCarthy and uncounted others have been viciously demonized for speaking the truth about the lying, subversive Left. They created and propagated the pejorative “McCarthyism” and have been 100x more effective at destroying honorable people than McCarthy was at exposing the actual threats to Republican Democracy and Western Civilization.

It speaks to Nixon's paranoia and insecurity that he and his Re-election Team felt the need to engage in dirty tricks. Nixon won 49 States out of 50. He won in a landslide so why all the Plumbers and shit. He would've still won easily without that, so why?

Robert Redford really seems to have shown a keen interest in Investigative Journalism. He also went on to play one in Up, Close and Personal. I don't think he is too old to play Bob Woodward again should there ever be a need to film one of his other books.

This self-impressed den of hypocritical vipers remained silent and complicit as the Obama Administration spied on journalists, filmmakers, weaponized the IRS against democrat/Cultural Marxists’ political opponents and spied on and taped, candidate and President Trump in a five year-long all govt agency coup d’état, leaked classified info, forged documents, defrauded the NSA and FISA courts and covered up the litany of Hillary Clinton’s lawlessness. For them to pose as paragons of morality and defenders of a free-press is a laugh riot. This orgy of narcissism looks like a preview tableau of hell. Such arrogance, self-righteousness and sanctimony is insufferable. They hold themselves in such high esteem when it is Nixon who out esteemed all of these unctuous quasi-Bolsheviks by facing himself and for taking the high moral road of NOT destroying the tapes as perfidious Hillary did by destroying phones and emails and hard drives that were under subpoena and finally by his resigning to save the nation the prolonged agony and division of a protracted impeachment and possible removal. Nixon won the day by releasing the power of the whole world to save his own soul. There is no such honor among this circle-jerk of smug, supercilious yellow thieves. I just looked up smarmy and greasy in the dictionary and the photos of Woodward and Bernstein popped up. As for Esau “The Red” Redford, an overrated had-been at best. A crusty, bitter, vainglorious, rigid ideological, apostate old fart if there ever was one.

This is even more interesting in view of the past 4 years of an apparently dishonest and greedy American president who severely discredited journalism. And yet despite knowing a lot of the truth (as Robert Redford says) perhaps, such a presidency was still allowed to happen. History repeating itself, certainly, and in light of Trump, is it condemned to continue doing so?

The motto is a little bit demagogue: "the core message of the film was not every man or woman are beyond the law." Interesting, what was about this principle, when for example Hillary Clinton had ordered execute the Libian leader Kadafi? The United States's foreign affairs mostly are beyond (international) law.

As Bernstein said, Watergate was a campaign of lies, like a toxin went through every aspect under the control of the President of the United States. The result was that everyone knew that no one, including the president, was above the law, everyone except for Trump.
Interesting that Bernstein also points out that in the Watergate tapes, Nixon, nor any of his staff, ever mentions what would be best for the country. Again, we rarely hear comments about what’s best for the country from current Republicans and never from Trump.
Almost everything wrong with Watergate and all the other scandals of this country, was all about self-interest and/or greed.
(Writing this with 38 days to go before the 2020 election.)
