I wear corsets daily as a fashion choice and I have to say they aren't usually that painful, sure they can be a bit uncomfortable at times just try not to do physical activities that require flexibility while wearing one.

Please wear something under a corset 🥲. This way, it’s muuuuch better for your skin and you won’t have to wash it. Corsets and many similar clothing items were never meant to be worn without something underneath like a chemise.

Historical corsets literally COULD NOT be tight laced. Metal grommets weren't invented until corsets were already going out of style, so all the eyelets were hand-sewn. If you laced them too tightly, they just tore.

The hysteria about corsets was just another case of grumpy old men hating young women's fashions and making up reasons while it was going to kill them...much like how we get told our modern fashions are going to kill us.

Tight corsets was rarely done if ever done. Also you had a chemise or another form of underdress between you and the corset. Lastly corsets were made for the wearer; or if a "mass produced" one, like the late 1890s to early 1900s maid corsets, got tailored.

Friendly reminder that working class women were required to wear corests as they were the only suppot garments available during the time. Corsets are just old-fashioned bras. If your corset causes you pain, either you're wearing it wrong or it hasn't been fitted properly.

Pro Tip: take in a deep breath to expand your diaphragm before tight lacing. Plenty of room to breathe and still supportive.

Additional fun fact: most corsets aren't meant for tight lacing(cinching more than 4 inch reduction) and when corsets were required fashion they were normally tailor made or breathable natural material not standardized sized polyester.
