It's a great piece of history. You see the Emirs making historic trade moves in this news report, which pretty much tells you the story of how the modern day UAE came to be.

I'm just trying to imagine Dubai not being the Dubai it is today, as a rough around the edges coastal pearling town and not the booming 21st century metropolis it is today.
