All Ps1 games looked like garbage youre judging these through a modern lense but back then when arcading and nintendo was still the gaming norm these games like spyro, crash, harry potter, tekken 1-3 all looked like dog spew but that was groundbreaking back then.

I started disliking after 8mins. It's a kids game. Chill. Sometimes games aren't meant to be so complex.
Enter Hogwarts, go explore. No need for deep dialouge book reads and "hey, let me tell you the lore behind how spells work."

This game is the pinacle of my childhood's frustration, I rememebr getting really close to the end and after a gauntlet of really shitty puzzles I died and was like "I'll have to redo it all again....I'll do that later" then I never touched the game ever again
Also if you think the eng dub is bad, I had to play in spanish since I didn't understand english at the time and spanish was the closer to portuguese my version had and hoo boy.

Nostalgia can be quite nice

Dude, I had this on my PS1 back in the day, and just like you said, for 8yr old me back then, this was an amazing game, and I also played the PC version at my friend, I never even knew they were the same freaking game.

I got the ps1 version for Christmas. Needless to say I have a really large hatred for Harry Potter.

I feel like it's not a function of trying to make a good game so much as the fact that making tie-in games like this is somewhere between a meat grinder and a boobytrap for fledgeling studios.
Sounds good on paper. It's more money than you and your crew have ever seen, but it's gonna be brutal, the game is gonna stink, and there are even caveats on the money, because Activision or Jaleco, or Ubisoft or whoever will 100% try to stiff you on your fee.
Edit: and the fact that Argonaut is behind this game makes perfect sense too. They were never quite the same after Nintendo stiffed them on Star Fox 2, and after Croc/2 didn't sell very well.
Argonaut was kinda on its way out, so they took these contracts, which ended up putting more nails in their coffins even faster.

It's so awesome to watch this video after playing Hogwart's legacy from avalanche, looking at all those spells and seeing how they were looking back then and how avalanche put modern twist to it :D

The demo for this was really good once you played through it a couple times. Easily could have contributed to the eventual sales.

This is a bad game that I like very much, maybe because I liked the german dub or the whole atmosphere or maybe its just blind nostalgia. I can't recommend it to anyone and I will not defend it in anyway. The only thing I know is that I will play it about once every one and half years and have a good time.

You have literally no idea of how BIZARRE, surreal and feverish the Spanish dubbing is for this game as well as the sequel. In The Chamber of Secrets when Harry speaks in parsel to open the Chamber he literally yells “ESPAÑOL!” Imagine the hysterical laughter that ensued from me and my brothers

They don’t count Flipendo in the menu because the menu only counts spells you actually learn in classes.
Most of the criticism you made are fair enough, but I’m noticing wayyy too nitpicking in this video

Unfortunately what you said is the same in every HP game. The developers just ASSUME that you know everything about Harry Potter. Its characters, its locations, its lore and plot. That's why they don't bother to introduce you properly to Harry's friends or foes because you're supposed to know them already. It's even much more noticeable in later games where the plot is so rushed, that you literally jump from one story to another without any connection between them. It's kinda like reading a book where every chapter tells a different story and those are not related to previous ones. The Goblet Of Fire is especially horrible because the game doesn't even take the time to explain you what a Triwizard Tournament is, who Cedric Diggory is and why you do all those challenges in the first place. Then you see Cedric in the finale and when he's killed you feel absolutely nothing because you barely even knew him. HP games were definitely made for people who already read the books or watched the films but it made people who didn't really confused and lost.

Play the second HP game that was on PS1. It's similar, but they fixed a lot of their initial mistakes. Our character even gets to talk a few times.
