My parents never hit or spanked me. Instead they punished me by sending me to time-out, and as I got older taking my phone away. They actually did what Jo suggests doing, which is to keep me in timeout for 1 minute per year of age. But they learned that technique elsewhere, not from Jo.

The way the first father is so mean that the little ones flee to their older sister, but the scary thing is that the older sister is too afraid to make them feel better.

Other than the father saying the b word to his daughter, I see nothing wrong with the discipline measures. The fact that they have fathers as the "Aggressive" ones stands out, too. They need order, so much that it's better that these fathers check them before the cops and inmates do it.
