For real, using the confederate monument, flags, or even names from their soldiers as well as racist politicians later is like using a middle finger to all people of different race, gender, disability, etc. To make matters worse, we have ignorant fools who'd not only call people from New York "Yankee," but also those from the Midwestern states like Michigan as well as those from the Pacific Coast such as Washington. Seriously?! Come on people! It's 2024! Not 1964 or earlier! Saying this word is the same shit as it is with the N-word, but a different smell. New York "Yankees" need to change their name for their baseball team. How about New York Apples because of the Big Apple? That won't offend anyone. If they want to keep using that word New York "Yankees," then let's see how'd they feel if I get to call Atlanta the "Crackers" because they've beaten African Americans with the crack of the whip. The point is that we do not want to use any names like this anymore that leads to not only hate, but also violence, oppression, and even war. So it's about time we should change names of these like how we did from Fort Gordon to Fort Eisenhower in Augusta.

Why can’t you just split the entire US into two horizontal lines and consider the bottom half the South? I’m from North Carolina by the way. And then you can even divide that into southeast and southwest if you want to lol.

What I can't understand is how can the south keep their southern identity, when they allow the sickest ones from the north land their with all their sick way to change the southern personalities. Most of them got ran out of the north, who travel to find victim states, where the young generation want to be like them. Because they don't know any better. Where now when one travel they see the same things all across the country, like they have not went anywhere. Don't get me wrong, because you have some good one coming also from the north, who trying to get away from those fools, but the fools looking around to function in other places to push their poisons on the best of the best, to bring them under their umbrella. The north is pushing the fools out in all the northern states. Because improvement will not tolerate those destructive ways.

I live in the south, and I think the racial aspect has all but died. (Of course, not a 100%) Most of the racial incidents -- like Floyd, etc-- were not in the South. I feel we have changed BECAUSE of our darker past . If you look at Germany and Japan, the biggest aggressors in WWII, those countries are among the most pacifist today because they have to live down their ugly historical past. Again, anyone can point to a particular incident in the news or in their own lives and say the South is racist, but I'm saying if you look at the big picture objectively, the South has fewer racial problems than most people think.

Lemme give a little history tip for the uneducated creators of this video. Only the deep south (SC, GA, AL,MS, LA and certain parts of Texas) wanted to maintain slavery for obvious reasons that's why it broke apart LONG before the others. The rest of n the south didn't want anything else to do with succession because they had very little skin in the game... That is until the moment of a Yankee invasion. So saying the entirety of the south broke away to preserve slavery is intellectually dishonest. Being southern is a way of life and has nothing to do with slavery or racism.

The definition of the South today needs to change and many Americans realize this more than ever because places everyone once thought were the “South” no longer identify with them in terms of economics, politics, culture, commute patterns to name a few. For example Washington DC, Northern VA extending into central Virginia along with Maryland & Delaware strongly associate with the Northeast in terms of almost everything mentioned above. One would be a fool to say the identity and culture of northern Virginia bordering DC is the same “South” as that of east Texas. Furthermore, West Virginia is its own state and has no real association with either the northeast or the south, maybe by politics with the South in recent years but the state has it has its own ‘Appalachian” culture entirely and none of its economic track record fits that of other southern states (high taxes, high state debt, increased spending on welfare programs). Neighboring Kentucky is also similar to WV in that regard but has much more association with the Midwest and upper Midwest including Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Much of Texas is slowly creeping into the likes of the West coast especially with migration of Californians to places like Austin, San Antonio and Ft. Worth. Florida up until Orlando area retains much of is southern identity but beyond that the culture becomes very homogenous with Hispanic and Caribbean populations along with blends of snowbirds so it really has its on micro cultures at that point. So truly speaking, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, East Texas and North Florida all currently fit the definition of the South in terms of culture, identity, politics, traffic patterns & economy for the most part.

I'm originally from California born and raised in L.A. but I'm thinking of getting my residency and Tennessee or Texas.

I can tell y'all West Texas is more aligned with Mexico it's not the South to me the South starts in Dallas and Houston on East.

I've lived in the South most of my life, and most Southerners are fake and cutthroat. I moved to Colorado in 2010, and it was refreshing. You didn't have to pretend like you would in the South. If it wasn't for family here, I would NEVER return to the South. I was born in Tampa, and lived in Tennessee most of my life.

This is a really good video. I'm a Southern American guy from Texas. Howdy! My DNA test results even call me a Southern American. Imagine that! There is, apparently, no other place in the world where so many ethnicities come together in the particular frequencies as what geneticists have observed in the American South.
Even many multi-generational Southerners can't actually call themselves any race other than Southern American. In myself, for example, I have German, English, Gaelic, Welsh, Scandinavian, Spanish, French, Italian, Slavic, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Sri Lankan, Peruvian, Columbian, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Kinh Vietnamese, Southern Han Chinese, Chinese Dai, and Japanese.
My blond-haired blue-eyed friend has all this plus some West African dna. So how can I identify with "Race"? What the heck is Race? Lol
I'm a Southern American and I totally agree with ya when ya say "There is no tea except sweet tea!" Lol Yes Ma'am!!! And if ya don't mind my sayin', no buddy cooks food so damn tasty and'll kill ya quicker than ol' fashion Southern Country Cookin'...and some Cajun!! I got my Greens recipe from my black friend Charles.
We sometime call each other by our skin tones, just like down in Trinidad dey say dock or fair, but d'are ain't none of dat negative "Race" crap in it between US.
We're all Southern boys and gals down here. And if people from over da line aint in w'dat, den we don't give a DAM. I'm fixin' to (finna) give dis video one big thumbs up for ya, sister! And finish eatin my Tex-Mex.
Also, and very importantly, an historically defining trait of what it means to be Southern is the majority of Southerners cherishing a Constitutional-loving political stance and a just-as-conservative stance on literalist beliefs in a predominantly Protestant Christianity. Now I, and most of my peers, dont identify as being Christian anymore, as were my ancestors and most of my Baby-Boomer family, though I am a diehard Deist who also greatly appreciates the United States Constitution-As-It-Is and I believe it's worth fighting to keep it that way. Honestly, i do not believe one can identify as a Southerner if they dont most highly value God, Family, and the Constitution of the United States of America and the Republic for which it stands...and in that order.
But before i go, i must point out that whereas i consider myself a Southerner, i am before dat a Texan. And d'are other cultural differences between us all...and we respect every good one of 'em and except the same in return. Now God bless ya, and yall take care! 👍
