Damn, your teeth are white. I just enlisted into dep in the Marines, my dad wanted me to become an officer and that's my end goal if I like the military. I'm going to start my bachelors degree while in and hopefully complete it. I'm going to try and get helicopter crew chief or security forces. The Marines will also pay for your college while active duty and it won't touch your GI bill.

Great video! TY for your service.
In 73, when I enlisted, my family or I could not afford college. I probably wouldn't qualify anyway. Lol My family! Dad Army Air Corps/USAF, Older Bro Jack, USN
2nd Oldest Wil, USMC, (Nam Vet), PA Natl Guard, Regular Army.
Me, SSgt, USMC Retired.
Younger Bro Jim
PA Natl Guard.
We all were enlisted.
I use to tell the Butter Bar, 2nd Lt's. Sir, I don't know whether to Salute you or Burp you, you're so young. & you have all the book knowledge on how things are supposed to go, but please listen to your Staff NCO's & NCO's They will tell you how it really is!
OOHRAH!!!

USAF retired prior-enlisted Capt (regular) and Vietnam vet. Eleven years enlisted (TSgt when commissioned), ten years commissioned - no break in service. (I'm also retired from my civilian job for good so I'm: "get off my grass" old - LOL). IMHO and experience, unless you crave the action e.g., combat controller, PJ., etc. and can't get into one of the few slots that are open to officers, or some other special field for which there is no actual officer counterpart, and especially if you want to fly - being an officer was a MUCH better life: pay, "treatment," accommodations and perks - not to mention, usually, much better ($$$) post-retirement civilian job opportunities. BUT get a STEM degree before applying do not waste your time or money or effort on crap like post-modern basket weaving, you get the point.

Grew up as an Air Force brat and my dad was Enlisted. Knowing what I knew, I wanted to go in as an Officer. However, failed the test both times and on the second try, missed it by two points. I was in my 20s and thought it was the end of the world. But, due to my dad working for the govt as a civ, he suggested I should go that route. A decade later or so, I went that route and that was the best decision ever. I will say that, I wanted it for the wrong reason. I came across this video and this is informative.

I moved around a lot so I know that world very well. When I think about it, I would not like that part too much. Everything happens for a reason and like you mentioned, the military is not for everyone as well!

Thanks for your service!!

My youngest brother is in the airforce he is a intelligence officer now but he was a pilot for a while. But he loves his job absolutely loves it. And you hit the nail on the head on this. I'm a US Army Veteran I left the army as Staff Sergeant and became a drill instructor which is umm yeah it's ok 😂. I enjoyed it but at the same time I didn't enjoy yelling at my guys.. sometimes I legitimately felt horrible for the things I said to em.. but you got to because some come in that has had everything basically handed to em by Mommy n daddy... And they got to be broken down 110% and rebuilt restructured. Even though they prob thought I hated em but honestly I loved each n everyone one of those guys n Galz. I went into the military June 2005 I left Oct 31st Halloween day 2017 is the day I came home for good. My lil brother has decided to make a long term career out of it. He is stationed out in Nevada you already know where 😂. 👽 👽 Lol. And I tell ya what ppl ask him all the time about the base itself he isn't allowed to speak much on it obviously lol. Now I will say this I don't expect you to say anything or answer on this topic.. but your a officer so you may have access to part of it. Nobody has full access to all the information and intelligence on the matter but you may know a Lil on it.. Personally I know alot and my brother knows alot himself because he is kinda in the middle of it ATM. And was during the classified annex report to congress about the UAPs / UFOs that are chasing our jets and naval fighters and airforce and ships and military in general we all have experienced this every Branch has its hands in it. But my brother showed me photos and videos of these UAPs up close as in very very close up to the jets. And he told me we actually have some of those crafts because one of em had English letters and numbers on its side.. but it was in the shape of a cigar tube no noises no afterburners no jet motors no wings ect... And it stayed right next to the jet and then shot off like a lightening bolt... Which is amazing but anyway awesome video it's definitely informative for ppl wanting to go be a officer. I should have went that way but I know 2nd Lts get alot of shit from the sergeants 😂. Iv seen in it many times a 2nd Lt. Tried bossing a fellow staff sergeant basically trying to throw that officer rank around on him and umm.. it didn't go to well for that 2nd LT... Not at all 😂😂😂. As a Staff Sergeant I have respect for all soldiers regardless of rank be it a private to general.. I see em all the same treat each with the same respect.. I love all my brother and sisters in arms regardless of what branch they are in... Everyone of them including myself signed that contract took that oath to defend this country and it's ppl.. and Willing to lay our lives down doing so... So that alone deserves respect.. but still we don't appreciate a 2nd Lt.. trying to tell us what to do and how to do it... I asked my buddy that is now a master sergeant he was my drill instructor back when I went to fort leanardwood Missouri. And he is still in the army.. and I asked him a while back why do sergeants give 2nd LTs dirty looks 😂?? N he laughed and said we don't all of em.. if they treat us with respect they will receive it back.. you gotta give respect and earn it to get it.. and if you disrespect one of us we will do the same back... And apparently some of the 2nd Lts come out of college ect with little military background as in physical time in service some not even seeing combat ect ect. Come n try to legitimately throw that rank ontop of us just isn't ok... And they immediately get push back.. iv seen fights cussing matches ect play out..

🤔 ...Hmm.

🕵️‍♂️ I am a recent transportation logistics graduate and current army reservist and graduate student that wants to reclass to BOTH the field of military intelligence AND as an officer, so I can either...

A. 🪖 Reclass to Human Intelligence Collector (or, maybe, as Counterintelligence Agent) and continue on as an enlistee/non-commissioned officer and work to and hope to eventually be directly commissioned as an officer later on.

B. 🎖 Join Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) BUT must remain in school until Spring 2024 THOUGH I will definitely end up a commissioned officer.

❓ ...So I wonder what I should do?

P.S. 🗽 I am in New York City and am 35 years old.

I would only add: 1) if you want to do the actual day-to-day work of whatever MOS you choose, go enlisted. Officers are managers. They typically push paper and develop overall strategies and tactics. All of those strategies and tactics are implemented by enlisted personnel. So, let’s say that you want to be a PJ or part of the security forces, the actual work is done by the enlisted ranks. Even in spec ops units, officers basically become managers and only really plan missions by the time they hit Major (Captain in some cases). Pilots are a notable exception to that rule of thumb. 2) Officers get pushed out around Major or Lt. Col. if they don’t play the political game.

Rather good presentation. Whether you come in as an enlisted or officer, you can use those skills, experiences, and training when you transition to civilian life. Prior enlisted are as successful when they transition to civilian as prior officers. It all depends on how you market yourself and use your skills and experiences. Being in the military doesn't last forever. Most people, especially, enlisted are in their teens and are still young when they retire. This is when the plain levels since most enlisted, especially those in the AF will have degrees, including advanced degrees when they retire. As a retired AF SNCO, I was still in my 30s when I transitioned and was able to get a very high paying job as a Government Official, top level contractor, and consultant. The duties were like a walk in the park given my extensive knowledge, training, education, and experience. Bottom line, it may appear those commissioned have an upper hand while in the military, but after the military it's a whole new ballgame. So, embrace whichever path you take as an enlisted or commissioned, to obtain your goals. Remember, most people don't get an opportunity to serve or make the military a career due to failing to qualify, fulfill requirements, or adapt to that way of life, whether enlisted or officer. Good luck in whatever you do in life🙏

I had college first but I wanted to have hands on experience on my satellite gear. Also I loved being a little crazy, I pulled the stupid airman card many times to get out of trouble. LOC’s and LOR’s I could live with and didn’t leave the squadron. Got to say I had a rip roaring 4 years and got out and went on to uplink super bowls and every event from Weather, Sports, News and Politics and more. Worked with Presidents and so on. Air Force was the best thing that happened to me. I would of charmed you into one dance before you told me we couldn’t be together cause of rank😁😁😁.

When I retired, the entire military was in the upheaval of the "Peace Dividend" from the collapse of the Soviet Union and the re-unification of Germany. Mr Clinton just continued and expanded the efforts of Mr. Bush (1). The words of many good NCO came to me over and over again (it is easier to get a job at 38 than 48). The services were drawing down and jobs were going away. The pay in the service is horrible for what they expect. No one respect us and even our own people tried to destroy unpopular leaders with criminal acts. Of course, if no one believes you, then it is not criminal, is it? Getting into the top two enlisted grades (top 1% and 2%) is not as easy as some think. When I was in, there were more full Colonels on active duty than there were people in the grade of E-9 (in the AF, there were even fewer real Chiefs). For me, it is the money and the chance to make a serious difference. In the AF, only Chiefs get to self-actualize. E-9s can destroy a unit. Was it worth it to make the jump? Only you and you alone can say. Good luck.
