We just got to let all the organics decay in the landfills for a decade and mine them for the plastics and metals that are left and just recycle them. 😂

Why not use enzymes to break down plastics? There is already a fungi that can do that

Outlawing the creation of plastic containers would seem to be what's needed, says he who remembers a time when the only plastic in my home was the Bakelite radio and got 3d back on any glass drink bottles from our local store.

Just tax the hell out of plastics, both the producers and consumers. It might replace sales tax completely even. But no, the politicians are too deep in oil companies pockets

the solution is by attacking the root cause i.e taking preventative measures to phase out plastic as much as possible. we cannot individual action volunteer group clean-ups our way out of this.

Anything that need large-scale human cooperation is a lost cause. Just like climate change, they will only start actually doing something when it truly become an issue and a risk for their existence.
Classic human behavior.

The most immediate "threat" from plastics is what ends up making it's way into water systems and eventually floating in the oceans. It's the things floating in the water that pose the more immediate risk. This is more a function of density than biodegradability. The "easiest" quick fix is to make the things that end up in the ocean the most (single use bags, straws, bottles, etc) from denser materials that don't float. A disposable bamboo spoon is not going to biodegrade quickly enough to not be a threat when it ends up in the ocean. A denser plastic fork that won't float is less likely to ever make it to the ocean at all.

Obviously, reuse is better than single use. But it's much harder to change people's behavior on a global scale.

The shift of burden of plastic pollution should go back the the oil companies, where their lobbyists placed it onto the consumer in the 1970s. CORPORATE GREED IS KILLING THE EARTH

It most countries have clean rivers. Sorry, we're a poor countries, all right? So all our waters are clean, unlike the ocean. Unlike you are your countries, our countries do not dump trash basically or even near water. There's not even water close by, so keep on doing what you want

No the planet and the horrors of life which have always been prevalent upon it, long before plastic, can never be fixed. The only way to 'save' anything alive is by not breeding it in the first place. Less and less people who have any kind of education are having kids and that's the only way forward. Once you exist you're basically fucked. You'll grow either old or sick or a combination of the two and ultimately you'll die. You might also die through an accident or violence. No amount of happy go lucky 'we'll fix this' crap will save anyone in the long run. So grow up. And don't breed. Life is a ponzi scheme.

The solution is easy - end plastic PRODUCTION...shifting the ownership of solving these major global issues onto the consumer completely avoids the single most effective way of maximizing the reduction of plastic by simply ending the production of it in its current form & taxing the hell out of plastic producers until they find a sustainable alternative...for instance, hemp & kelp/seaweed are two completely viable bioplastic options that continue to be widely neglected but would be tremendous alternatives!

Plastic pollution is actually way more scary than what this video covers. The real threat is from the chemicals in plastics (PFAS, phthalates, BPA) that leech into our food / drinking water and end up in everyone's blood (yes, yours too).
These disrupt hormones, cause cancer, obesity, birth defects, and brain development issues.

And they're impossible to avoid entirely, due to how much widespread the problem is, and at this rate it'll get many times worse in our lifetimes.
