Thank you for your video. I can't believe people punish their pups, 'rubbing their nose in their mistakes' that's just cruel and insane. You wouldn't do that to your babies, so why would you do that to your pups? Crazy people 🤦🏻‍♂️

Why do you pronounce dachshund like "dash-hound" sometimes?

I have watched several of your videos and have to say I really appreciate how you have such a concrete understanding of the breed. I have had 3 dachshunds, while they have all been different individuals, they still show at lot of the same traits you talk about. Thank you for making these videos!

In all honesty, I am wondering how much of the potty training dificulties are due to the training of the pups mothers. My mini girl is fanatical about keeping her bed clean, and when she had a litter of puppies, she taught them all to go outside their crate. Now, even a 6 weeks old, I can bring them inside after their dinner, take them all outside to go potty just before I go to bed, and again in the middle if the night, and their bed is dry in the morning still. This is 6 week old puppies who are still with their mother. But my boy, who I bought from a breeder who I know did not let them out to go potty at night (because she has so many dogs and it would take forever) is terrible at pooping and peeing everywhere through the house. So I do think the puppies mother AND the breeder play a huge role in how difficult it is to potty train your puppy once he comes home to you.

I learned 15 years ago through loving and living with my precious Tallulah Whiskey that negative reinforcement has nothing but negative results on a Dachshund! The breed is very sensitive to harsh measures. And they WILL hold a grudge 😉😂.

House breaking my first doxie WAS tough...but when I got a second one as a friend for my first one because I had to work...house breaking was a breeze...she took her cues from number one and it only took at most about a month...and she was good to go.

thank you for this video! I just got my doxie (3.5 mths old) and potty training has been so hard! We leave in an apartment and potty train on pee pads. He understands to pee/poo in the toilet but doesn't understand that it should be on a particular spot. Hope you share more tips on this next! :)

Personally I kind of feel like it has something to do with the breeder not training her because my dog was somewhat potty trained under seven weeks when we got her she was already using P pads she still had a little accident but majority of the time she would go only on the P pad or she’ll go outside and this is when she was really really tiny she learned within having her for a month she learned to go only on her P pad and only outside if she’s in her playpen it’s P pad but if she’s not in her playpen then she goes to the door also another another reason why she could be having accidents is because you give her access to water 24 seven we gave her water only with her food or if she felt like she needed something to drink but we would monitor her so we would give her water and 10 minutes after we give her water we will take her outside and we would constantly say go potty go potty until she knows OK this means go to the bathroom and we would reward her within three months of having her she was fully potty trained with no accidents ever she knew how to hold her P and everything and she will sit by the door and wait or she’ll bark until someone comes to the door to open it for her to go outside

You're lucky... my pup has almost no problem at all witb potty at daytime but he's fine sleeping on top of his pee, so regardless of the number of times i take him out at nightime (usually 2), he will still pee in his crate at least once

I 100% believe that punishing your dog for going inside makes things worse not better. My puppy was yelled at and put in time out after pooing in the house. Later that night he wouldn't wee or poor outside. Literally right after he wouldn't go outside, he weed in our bed

We lost our Doxie on 8/4/21, He was 11 years old and it was so sudden, there is not a day that goes by that I still don't tear up a bit 6 weeks later. He was very easy to house train and we did not have an accident in at least 10 years, he will always be in our hearts. To fill a large void in our home we are picking up an 8 week old Doxie this week. Hopefully, he will be as easy to train, If not he will still be loved and cared for.

Helpful video. My pup is 4 months old. She has no problem going potty on her bed and then going to sleep on it. She will often wee right after coming in from outside (even though she went outside as well). No carpet and no blanket is safe in our house at the moment. Some days I think she has gotten it and others it feels like we are starting from the beginning again 😭😭😭

I do the puppy pads Bevause I live in a apartment and I live in Buffalo it’s so cold here too like Canada but someday when we have a house even he will be older like 1 by then but I want to push him to go outside more even it will be harder but doesn’t hurt to try! Awesome video!! 😊

I'm in a couple of the FB dauschund groups and it seems like 20% of new puppy owners REALLY struggle with potty training. They'll say stuff similar to "we'll spend an hour or 2 outside and as soon as we come in he/she will potty inside" some even really struggle with the crate aspect of potty training, can't believe how stubborn they can be lol.
I was curious my doxie is 5 months and when I take her out in the middle of the night she wakes up and plays for usually an hour. (Not the most convenient time 3-4a.m.) did that happen with Stella at that age or did she go right back to sleep?
Thanks again for all your content, I've watched just about all your videos to better take care of my doggo, Darla & I both thank you❤

Oh my I can relate so much to this! I live in an apartment and my pup is actually surprisingly easy to potty train even from day one (I use pee tray.) She have accidents whenever she's upset with me or other family members over such ridiculous things 😂 (not enough belly rubs, not giving her enough attention.... she's such an attention seeker!! hahaha) one time she saw my mum getting ready to leave the apartment, she was VERY upset because it was supposed to be her play time with my mum! (our family take turns with her play times) so she decided to keep my mum busy and distracted from leaving her.... by poo-ing in my mum's bedroom 😂😂😂 once my mum's done cleaning her poo, she made a weird noise which apparently was her laugh (yes I didn't know they can actually laugh!) as she walked back into her crate 😂

My two are 7 and have been challenging off and on throughout their lives. Routine is important and walking on the leash is a very reliable way to get them to go potty. My male has learned to actually go when I tell him to, if he has to go, although I have to get demanding about it sometimes. My female learned to ring bells to go out but learned that it is also a way to get my attention. Fortunately, if they ever go in the house, it is usually the bathroom or occasionally near the door where we usually go outside. They have never really learned to let me know in anyway they need to go except for my one who will sometimes run to the back door when he needs to potty before bed.
Routine, crates and praising them for good behavior with whatever works. Walks 30 mins or so after a meal for poops. urinating indoors want as hard to train as poops, for my dogs, but once in a while my female who is the dominant of the two will mark something that doesn’t smell like home….like my new comforter, and freshly washed quilt! One of mine responds best to treats, the other responds great to verbal praise and petting. And yes, when they are young, keep returning them to their crate until they potty. They are sneaky and fast so I have rarely been able to catch them in the act, but if you can, I have heard a loud noise or to just startle them while they are in the act is good training. They also say a leash tied to your waist works. Look up umbilical cord type training. Training is definitely hard with dachshunds!

I don’t think it’s possible to FULLY potty train a weenie due to how stubborn they’re. 😂 Mine is “potty trained”, but will have mischievous “accidents” whenever he feels likes it. Especially when it is raining. I’ve learned that it’s just part of owning a dachshund.

My doxies were easy. They had a dog play pen and come and go when they want except at night. We are blessed with a large fenced backyard so they go out and run a lot. Then they sleep eat snd out for play snd potties. We have doxies and chichi’s. They are all easy to train.
