For all the flaws of these movies, it’s nice to see this side of Elrond

Bilbo is the only one who can get away with insulting an Elf Lord in his own house, and walk away with a free Magic Kingdom Annual Pass, lol

frodo might have a place among all the elf friends, but i would say Bilbo is the greatest of hobbits. a friend to elves dwarves and men, welcome in their homes and able to give 'cheek' to kings and wizards alike.

I can see why Bilbo was perfectly happy living along among elves (at least the high elves), and I don't see why Frodo was of a kindred spirit. All the comments I see of Frodo going into west into the Undying Lands seem to assume that he absolutely needs to have another hobbit with him as a companion (whether it be Bilbo or Samwise) lest he go mad being alone with elves. I don't know where that sentiment is coming from. Frodo had a habit (like Bilbo) of sneaking off to be with elves at every opportunity when he lived at Hobbiton. He certainly knew the high elven tongue, and would have been perfectly comfortable in my opinion (after Bilbo passed away) living alongside and conversing with them until Samwise arrived.

The fact that Elrond looked unimpressed with Bilbo for mocking his kind but then smiling slyly just after was his way of proving a point. It was his way of letting the hobbit know he wasn't wrong. Elves by nature are complicated and not all are welcoming. Pretty good way for him to make that apparent.

Funny that for Elrond, probably the last time he met a Hobbit before this was at the Battle of Fornost watching the Hobbits join the fight against the Witch-King. Looking at Bilbo now and happy that their sacrifice made the Shire the quiet and homely place it is.

I like to think the reason Elrond is so nice and hospitable to outsiders is because his own life is a very unique story. Due to the heroic deeds of his father Earendil, the Valar granted he and his brother the option to live out their lives as either an elf or mortal man. Elrond chose to be an elf while his brother Elros chose mortality, becoming the first and longest ruling king of Numenor. Elrond was known as Half-Elf. A title that distinctly singled him out compared to pureblood/natural born elves. I think he has more empathy for the dwarves and hobbits than the other elves mainly because his upbringing and entry into being an elf changed his POV on the world.
