The producers didn't even want Connery, even laughed at the idea. They wanted Cary Grant. They called Connery an overgrown stunt man and said that he wasn't sophisticated enough. After the meeting, the producers were still not convinced, then they watched him walk away. They said, he moves like a panther, and the rest is history. They hired him on the spot without even a screen test, and to top it off, they paid him only $6,000 while the movie made millions.

Connery's delivery and intro as Bond is iconic. He introduces Bond to the world and it couldn't have been done better. Nevertheless, in the tribute to the James Bond films in this years Academy awards they neglected to show this emblematic introductory scene. They showed all the other actors introducing themselves as Bond-- never as great as Connery's delivery--but neglected to present Connery's. They stupidly don't show Connery delivering one of the greatest introductions in film history as he introduces Bond to the world. Inexplicably foolish.

For those of us of a certain age, Connery's portrayal of Bond was the man we all aspired to be. Class, sophistication, along with a touch of ruthlessness. I grew up in the 80's but that was the exact tuxedo I rented for Senior Prom.
