I'm fascinated by the second album. I would have loved to have heard live arrangements of wreck, black cat, etc. Probably my favorite LP that and in a glass house.
ОтветитьGreat interview. Great drummer !! Thanks ✨
ОтветитьExcellent stuff Gregg! Thanks so much The ProgCast-- the last ten minutes just blew my mind; one of the first albums I ever heard as a child through my father was "Sinatra At The Sands with Count Basie and his Orchestra Conducted and Arranged by Quincy Jones", what an amazing story from Pugwash about working with Q...wow. Wow! Thank you for sharing this great interview.
ОтветитьJohn Weathers is at the top of his trade. He was a GIANT in Giant. And he takes a back seat to no one! No one!!
ОтветитьIt was very hard to delay this video due to another appointment today.Kind greetings to your son and Thank you so much!
ОтветитьWonderful video, thank you for this!
ОтветитьIs John still playing these days?
ОтветитьGreat thanks guys, part 3?,
ОтветитьYou can't hurry love. Ow ow ow.😝
ОтветитьJohn is such a wonderful person. Great interview Gregg.
ОтветитьAs a longtime Genesis fan I was interested by Weathers' band comparison with Genesis. And the fact that, around 1976, Genesis began hitting the charts.
To me, Gentle Giant was a funkier version of Genesis. And Giant's short songs (of the same period) were every bit as good as Genesis's.
But Genesis had a very distinct lead voice. Derek Shulman by comparison sounded real bland. And I still believe that is the reason for the sudden chart difference.
First time watching ProgCast and have to say this interview was fantastic. I was one of those 70s kids who bought all the prog and fusion records (including KC, Yes, ELP, VDGG, MO/RTF/Soft Machine/Brand X, Shadowfax-the first WW on Passport). But GG for me was - and still is - the band who I REALLY want other people to hear. Not a drummer, so I can't speak with authority...but the thing about John's playing that made him unique IMO was that there was all this contrapuntal mayhem swirling around him and what does he do on the kit? Drive a bulldozer of groove right through it. And clearly enjoying doing it effortlessly. Seems (and sounds simple) but...not so much. The perfect drummer for GG and apparently a very sweet and humble man to boot. It's a shame that he isn't mentioned often enough in the same breath as Bruford/White/Palmer/Collins/etc. And ditto for Guy Evans...but that will hopefully be another interview.
ОтветитьRIP Ray Shulman 3/30/23😢
ОтветитьAbsolutely incredible interview with the great John Weathers! I totally agree with his opinions and honesty. All hail, the power and glory of Gentle Giant.
ОтветитьI would have loved to hear more about The Missing Piece album.
ОтветитьPugwash and Ray were every bit as good as Lee and Peart, Bruford and Wetton, Barlow and Glascock... Different, yes. Just as good, absolutely.
ОтветитьIt is so enjoyable listening to John talk about the past and his band mates and the other bands that were around at that time.👍👍
ОтветитьIn my opinion, John changed the face of Gentle Giant! He added an energy that wasn't there on previous albums.
ОтветитьWhat a great guy.
