Ms. Te Kanawa will always hold a special place in my heart. I have over 500 opera box sets, dozens of opera dvds, and recital cds. But in 1990, when I was in college at UNT and was introduced to opera by a couple of college friend in the Music Department, my very first opera purchases were a box set of Boheme, a box set of Butterfly, and the recital cd of Kiri Te Kanawa's "Verdi and Puccini Arias."

I started having anxiety issues in college that gave me pretty bad sleep problems. One particular night when I couldn't fall asleep, I figured I'd listen to her cd to get my mind off of whatever was keeping me up. For whatever reason, I just randomly played D'amor sull'ali rosee. The aria was not even over before my mind stopped racing and I felt the most wonderful, peaceful calm. The next thing I knew, it was the next morning. So for some time after that, whenever I got anxiety that kept me from falling asleep, Kiri Te Kanawa would calm my mind and lull me in to a peaceful sleep by singing to me my own personal lullaby, D'amor sull'ali rosee. 32 years later and countless arias and singers who have calmed my racing mind and have lulled me in to a peaceful sleep, I'll never forget who first showed me the magical power of the human voice.

Kiri Te Kanawa was offered the role of the Countess in  after an audition of which the conductor, Colin Davis, said, "I couldn't believe my ears. I've taken thousands of auditions, but it was such a fantastically beautiful voice."

Aged 46 her voice was still very beautiful. No trouble with the high notes at all.

Yes she is all what you all say she is.
But her crowning glory is the way she so wisely comports herself.
If she was a queen wouldn’t we all marvel at the marvellous way she handles herself. Before honour there is humility hence she receives great honour.

For God sake, has this woman ever released her voice? She contributed so much to the wrong conception of Mozart singing many people have! She's gorgeous, sweet... but isn't she supposed to have something like a voice?
