I have no idea why I waited so long, but I'm normally a water-only person... and when I tried a sip of kefir for the first time a few weeks ago? Yeah. I downed that entire container. 😂 The first two weeks I burned through like 6 containers. It was like my body was just craving something so bad in it. There are a lot of benefits I can list than I've noticed, but suffice it to say... I'm a huge fan now.

He claims Store bought kombucha has 20 to 25 grams of sugar? Per what? Is that per 16 ounce bottle …per cup? What’s the reference point? I use a refractometer daily to check the sugar in my kombucha, and I’ve never had anywhere near that amount even in a 16 ounce bottle.! my homemade kombucha has at the most 5 g per cup. Also, I’ve tested many of the commercially made kombucha and they don’t have anywhere near 20 to 25 g of sugar per cup or per 16 ounce bottle. If you’re going to eat Kefir, you better make it at home because store-bought Kefir is loaded with sugar.!!

Homemade Kefir from raw, unpasteurized whole milk is the best! Btw, that dude Thomas DeLauer looks like he's downing entire bottles of those Frank Thomas pills. -You know those pills that help you 'stay in the game'. 🙂

Wouldn't it be more accurate to compare Kombucha to Water Kefir, than to compare Kombucha to milk based Kefir?

makes Kombucha, Water Kefir and Milk Kefir and they are all very good. Noticably huge help to general well being.
I consider Kombucha and Water Kefir to be superior because they don't rely on dairy and bring less sludge into the body.
Also, Kombucha is made with TEA, not just sugar water. Milk Kefir will feed off lactose as well.
I also notice if I take in milk kefir I will be too hungry for dairy products and step over what is a healthy amount of dairy intake.

Great video. You rightly point out that kefir is basically an enhanced yogurt. Most studies i've read argue that kefir has around 12 strains of active cultures, with 15-20 billion CFUs, while yogurt can have up to 5 strains of active cultures, with only around 6 billion CFUs.

Very good video, but… Kombucha is tea based. Personally I use green tea. The sugar or honey is added, but over time the sweetness becomes more sour. That sugar is likely diminished. That sourness is very good for your gut. I really love milk kefir, but too hot in summer to make it. It gives me a sense of well-being and helps me sleep.

I'm concerned that you have 3.5 million viewers and you just unloaded misinformation of Kombucha. Kombucha is fermented tea of organic black or green tea. Both Kiefer and Kombucha culters consume the sugars in each product.

You said Kombucha is just a sugar water. How can a sugar water with a scoby "ferment?" - answer is, it can't.

You claim you researched Kombucha and could not find information. You didn't research it well enough because there is a LOT of information out there.

Both Keifer and Kombucha is very much good for you.

Very disappointed in the lack of knowledge you possess on BOTH products! 😞

I wonder how much sugar is left after the fermentation in water/milk kefir. I am a big fun of an almost sugar free diet, so I would be veeeery grateful is somebody could cast light on this :)

If there aren't enough studies about the gut benefits of kombucha, you can't definitively say that kefir or yogurt is better, even if they may actually be. Also, I love a kombucha on occasion mainly because I don't drink alcohol anymore, and when I'm wanting a break from water, kombucha is my go-to for something I really enjoy that isn't bad for my health. And I still consume yogurt and kefir for the health benefits.

I dislike the smell of most yogurts but have finally been able to start eating it around 39 years old! I tried kefir once and it makes me wanna gag so I forced myself to put some in my oatmeal daily till the one bottle finished. I’m asking for a recommendation on a kefir that maybe smells less if that makes any sense or perhaps I need to find a flavored one which masks its natural order which for whatever reason my body hates cream cheese and yogurt kefir and anything like that category. But health firdt and time to improve every chance I get. I will be looking into kimchi and have recently started to increase my sauerkraut intake which I do enjoy. Thanks for any responses !!! Ideally if I could add kefir into my oatmeal or if I had to just down a few oz a day to get the benefits those two options seem the best. I can consume yogurt prettt decently these days but tend to only buy vanilla. Coconut, coffee, caramel or chocolate types I don’t do the fruity ones or other flavors. Thx!!

From personal experience of using both kefir and kombucha. My main aim was just to bring so variety in beverages while dieting. The first time I had kombucha, I ended a 36 hour dry fast. Instantly, my appetite was blocked, I could not eat anything more and I lost so much water in withing few hours, I lost 4 kilos of water weight. This is crazy! Again this happened to me, no guarantee it works for everyone. But it has powerful diuretic properties for me.

I can't tolerate even the trace amounts of alcohol in kombucha. Supposedly people can't, when they have ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome).

Kefir I can tolerate, which leads me to assume there isn't an alcoholic element.

Hi Thomas, I hope you won't mind me asking a question about kefir rather than commenting on the video. I have been drinking kefir (from cows' milk) regularly, but I just noticed something in the nutritional information that has me a little confused. It says that in 100g of kefir, there is 3.8g of fats (of which 2.7g is saturated), 3.8g of carbs (of which 3.8g is sugar) and 3.4g of protein. Two things then. 1) there is more sugar than saturated fats or protein. 2) of 100g, only 11g are fats, carbs and protein. What is the other 89g? I respect the science-based approach you take, so I hope you might understand my concern - ie, that this is not good for anyone on a keto-based diet as it has a high sugar content. Or am I misunderstanding something? Thanks, and keep up the good work.
