My concerns are two
1. Consistency. Consistency of Inflated balls can be controlled by air pressure. Once a polymer ball is made there is no way to adjust its elasticity.

2. Mot i.portantly safety. Getting hit by basketballs can cause cut in your skin. Myself once have experienced quite bad laceration in my finger during playing basketball. Polymer balls with holes will cause more serious damage. Moreover all polymers can break. Imagine you got hit with a cracked polymer ball. It seems current balls wont be replaced by the polymer balls. But still this polymer ball is dumb idea even it is a prototype.

Look at any sport that has regular ball changes. In Football for example, every world cup a new ball is introduced. Remember 2010 in South Africa. That ball was too light and it was all over the place. Eventually the players will get used to it though.

it really doesnt matter, cause both teams play with the same ball, so handicap is equal.

The hole will likely pick up dirt and when flying deposit it into your eyes

It might break the nba but it won't be because it positively changes the game.

Just for shits & giggles I'd start watching basketball if this thing gets used in the NBA.

i think it is worth pursuing, a ball that lasts basically forever and has no pressure variance would be great for people outside of the nba.

i suspect the holes could actually make more drag not less

I don't watch basketball, but damn do I love just how high level the players are for them to be this sensitive to ball changes. Its really kind of fascinating.

I see another big issue with that ball - if your pinky finger get stuck in a hole it may break if somebody try wacking the ball of your hands

Rubber changes over time , degrade easy when being exposed to the sun and rubber change elasticity with temperature change. New is better :)

I think what people aren't talking about, is the fact it has HOLES. What happens when you THROW a ball that is full of holes? The wind rushing can pass right through the ball, rather than being forced around the ball. This is going to change its trajectory, spin, air resistance, and more. Just simply put, a very bad idea when you're trying to have a game that requires consistency with the main object -- the ball -- being used. There's a reason that MLB uses a very specific clay from a very specific location that is kept secret in making its official balls, and why they use a new ball after every play where the ball comes into contact with the ground or a bat, because they need consistency so that no player can blame the ball for why a play didn't turn out right.

That thing looks like a hygienic nightmare. You'd have to dip it in some cleaning solution to make sure you got all the germs off it after play.

Someone needs to tell whoever is thinking of changing the ball that they have brain damage.

The air resistance is a minimal factor because the ball is spinning and pushing the air around the ball and that air creates a cushioning effect for the new air being introduced.

The thing about rubber bands, they wear out.

Microfiber?, that is used for cleaning. (It's so effective, you don't even need water or soap) There is no wonder to why their skin cracks up, when the microfiber removes ALL natural fat in the skin. It's the most IDIOTIC thing I didn't know of. It's so dumb it should be criminalized

This doesn't work because of aerodynamics. It's still a ball, but the drag a normal ball that doesn't have holes in it makes, would shoot completely different. All Ball players would have to muscle memorize a completely new ball.

I'm all for it as long as it ruins the careers of as many current NBA players as possible!

My question is besides not bouncing as high as a traditional basketball. How's the weight. I mean for many current and up and coming players, they are use to the standard weight and muscle memory is programmed in to make shots. A lighter ball with air holes and a lighter weight will be too many factors to the player and their ability to keep their performance level.

So if the Richie Riche's of the NBA are trying to make a better basketball, what's wrong with the current one?
