Don't take this personally but your images are very average. Now that almost all cameras over, the price of $1,500 are very good, the difference in the photo is in the eye and skill of the person behind the lens, not the tech. When a golf hacker buys the state of the art Driver, it doesn't improve his score, it just results in the ball going 20 yards deeper into the forest.

Nope we need more dials and less touchscreens , have the canon r7 who has a full use touchscreen and its a pain compared to a fuji xt-5 and its 3 most important dials , should have given that one the cache and capabilities of the h-2 and ergonomics of the xt.

I wish there was a camera like a box with just a full touchscreen on back. Like a point and shoot with no viewfinder. But if you put it up to your eye a viewfinder will appear in the touchscreen,

I foresee a future were shutter speed is completely different. I’d imagine that what you would do is set a maximum shutter time then the images that would be produced rather than being a single image would have a time axis. This would enable you to re adjust your shutter speed in post and even find the best start and end time of the shutter. Of course this is likely many years off as this would use an insane amount of compute and storage.

I really hate video titles that contain "change forever", "change everything" etc. It is NEVER true. Global shutter is very interesting and cool, but the vast majority of photographs would be UNCHANGED by the addition of a global shutter to the camera. Just talk about the camera without the click-bait hyperbole ... ok?

Great video. I wish I would have seen it a week ago. I've been playing with mine for 4 days almost nonstop and still can't figure out how to save Bracket settings in Memory Recall. The "*" setting on the drive mode dial make's it confusing, but I have to admit I haven't used "Memory Recall" that much. Can you even store these settings. Sony use to provide a decent user manual with their cameras. Now it's just an online "Help Guide' that seems vague. I bought it based on all the hype I heard preproduction last year. Big mistake!!! Oh yeah, I agree, the app sucks.

Not so great -Global shutters expose all the photosites of a sensor simultaneously, which can result in a reduced dynamic range compared to rolling shutter sensors. Dynamic range is the range boundaries or luminous intensity range when taking a picture. A wide dynamic range means the final image will more accurately depict the situation in real life, even under intense illumination

Nice, to the point. For me 24 mp is not good, and dynamic range is ok but but not top, today my first choice is the a1, i’m waiting for the a1 mark 2. But this is my personal view basis the way i’m using my camera. But one day global shutter will be the standard.

I had a Minolta film camera in the 1990's that could flash sync at all speeds up to 1/8000 sec, the 700si, as I recall the flash guns were the 3500XI and 5400HS.
It was very very useful for bright Sunlit wedding shots to fill in the harsh shadows, fine tuned it was a great look.

So, there are a number of shooting scenarios for wgich this camera is optimal:
1) You really need 120fps (sports?)
2) You like to shoot portraits in mid sun outside wide open f1.2 at 1/80.000th (darken the sun at noon) and use a simple 200ws flash in a big softbox to achieve this
3) You are constantly shooting inside with crappy ambient LEDs formerly having caused banding in your images
I would like to do 2+3 but I am not really sure this make sense from a business perspective. At the moment, I do not get extra clients or lose existing clients because I am working my A9II cameras a bit harder (doing a bit of high-flash sync outside and messing with finding an appropriate shutter speed to reduce banding in these ugly-light venues)

It's Sony, so it most certainly is not professional.

Apart from that, the significance of this technical improvement to actual photography is near-zero.

The close to hysterical talking about this improvement is completely unwarranted.

It is not TRUE that electronic shutters traditionally read one line at a time. Most actually has the ability to read multiple lines at the same time. They simply cannot read ALL LINES AT ONCE. In fact, that is why electronic shutters can achieve frame rates that are almost as fast as that of mechanical shutters even though the read time for the entire sensor is MUCH SLOWER than the speed of the mechanical shutter. A good mechanical shutter with a flash sync speed of 1/250 has an travel speed of about 4 ms; even a very ordinary one with a 1/125 sync speed is about 8 ms. An A7RV e-shutter is about 60 ms while the lower res A7IV is about half that at just under 30 ms. In spite of that, the electronic shutter allows you to shoot at frame rates quite close to the mechanical shutter. How can a e-shutter that takes 60ms to read from the first to the last line shoot at 7~8 fps when the 4ms mechanical shutter "only" does 10 fps? The reset time of the mechanical device accounts for at least doubling the continuous shooting speed of the shutter. But, it still doesn't add up. The answer is that the e-shutter can start reading another line before the previous read reaches the last line like a moving Zebra curtain. Yes, sometimes it can start reading the 1st line a 2nd time when the the previous frame is only say 20% down the sensor.

@dwightlooi
@dwightlooi - 17.03.2024 10:47

It doesn't change photography too much. Rolling shutter IS NOT AN ISSUE for most people in the overwhelming scenarios under which they take photographs or make videos. It only becomes a problem when you need to get above the flash sync speed of a mechanical shutter or electronic front curtain shutter, and ONLY when you are shooting something that moves very fast. Most people don't need to shoot fast enough frame rate or with a short enough exposure time 99.9% of the time. It only matters to sports and action photographers seeking very fast frame rates or video gays needing to go fully electronic while panning very quickly. That is a very small minority of all the photos and videos taken by mankind.

Using the terms global sensor and global shutter interchangeably and inconsistently is very confusing for most people.

A sensor is a sensor and a shutter is a shutter. This camera is shutteeless. In the very first seconds there's a term displayed "global shutter sensor".
I could live with that because at least it's different than global shutter.
