Of all the videos to feature the dog, this one was making me nervous when the blades were out. Someone maybe oughta cut a corner off your totin’ chip…
ОтветитьSpyderco Siren has been my go to for a while now. Good texturing on the handle, the blade shape is great for 90% of my needs, and the LC200N steel is easy to touch up and is 100% rust proof
ОтветитьI like the Buck knives mostly.
-Buck 055
-Buck 102
-Buck 112 Ranger 3"
-Buck 119
I did buy a 3.5" knife with Stag antler handle, Damascus blade and a brass guard off Vintage Gentleman. Boy is this handy.
The brass guard helps too.
Also from Vintage Gentleman is the VG-51 knife. It's a 3" folding Damascus bladed knife. Real Lightweight. Green Pakkawood and white bone handle.
Kudos to you and your compadre nestled up to you on the bench such a good partner enjoyed your knife collection beautiful job Hunter and butcher over 50 years and thankful for your channel God bless and keep you safe.
ОтветитьThe dog wants to go hunting 🙂🙂
ОтветитьThat is a BEAUTIFUL dog! Im new here, what is the breed?
Ответить3, knives ; 1 to break, 1 to loose, the one you need.
ОтветитьI like to put tape loosely around the edges of old disposable blades before tossing them, or collecting them in a disposable container labelled "sharps".
ОтветитьI have carried Russel, Schrade, Buck etc but a few years ago I got a Cold Steel Master Hunter. It is a MUCH better steel than I have ever used. I have dressed out 2 deer with it and it was still sharp. Not so for my other knives. I carry 2 and give the other one to my partner cuz his knife will not cut for very long. Everybody that uses the Cold Steel is enthusiastic about how sharp it is. Much better than ANY of the name brand knives I have used in my 73yrs.

Great video, Ron! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on knives. Love your dog.
ОтветитьFor skinning big pigs you really need a knife with a gut hook on the back. I find It really saves a lot of time for un zipping the tough hides of boars
ОтветитьRon, your dog is so beautiful. I wish I had a friend so good!
ОтветитьGreat video Ron 👍
Old Case hunting knives are sweet.
Old Timers too
Lot's of new choices now day's.
I’ve been using the Buck 105 for 30yrs. I process my own but also my hunting buddies game. With a steel I’ll do anywhere from 4-9 animals a year. It still holds its edge. I worked in an animal processing plant in my late teens and early 20’s. Europeans taught me how to sharpen, by hand using a stone. Never lost the skill and my buck knives shave hair all through the season.
Knives are like shoes and guns. It’s all subjective
I clicked on knife shows
ОтветитьLove your dog.
ОтветитьI’m just happy your brother got you that buck knife Ron. That’s how brothers show how much they care. I bet it has much sentimental value to you.
ОтветитьFirst of all: Beautyful dog, you got there. She really adds up to that video.
About knives: For me hygiene is also an important factor. Thats why I don't like folders that much. They are just so elaborate to clean. But that's just the lazy me.
My main knife is the Mora Kansbol nowadays. It's not a beauty in any sense, but it's functional and unexpensive. Just a solid tool. With a plastic handle and sheet. Easy to clean and razor sharp.
Regards from the Black Forest, Germany.
Have a BUCK 110 and a swiss knife,
ОтветитьI use a cheap Wal-Mart fillet knife for finishing and getting ready for packaging too, cheap and easy to sharpen.
ОтветитьHey Mr Ron, I love having cubbie in the videos! The addition of that pretty hunting friend is just right! Anyway, love the show and the dog, so keep up the great, entertaining and informative work Mr Ron!
ОтветитьMy favorite for almost two decades has been the Grohmann No.1, or Canadan belt knife. That design is perfect IMO, and the steel is good enough to quarter a moose without a touch-up. How much harder does it really need to be? I've got an old Western Cutlery "Black Beauty" that I inherited from my grandfather, like your Buck its a bit long, but I still use it sometimes for nostalgic reasons, and because that carbon steel is excelent.
ОтветитьI normally carry a fixed blade and a folder and a pocket knife, I prefer a 1095 high carbon steel there’s lots of steel out there 1095 is the best for knives.
If you know how to black smith ,you can make knives out of old files, and I mean old files, not newer files, the steel isn’t the best
I want a Ryman Setter so bad, love seeing Covey on your vids. Smart doggo. That old Buck 100-series fixed in the black sheath brings back memories from my youth. It was my first 'real' hunting knife. Actually one of the 'only' real hunting knives back in the late 70s.
ОтветитьThe anointing "hunting knife" is subject to much debate. Is it a knife that the hunter carries with him to slice his meat and vegetables, is it a knife for skinning wild boar or deer, or is it a knife that does all of these? Such a knife should have an anatomical, non-slip grip and a 4-5'' edge length and preferably not space steel. For folding knives no talk of a hunting knife they are too small, flimsy and dangerous for heavy use unless one is hunting ants, they are only good for opening cartons. Now for the flex hunting knives?
Ответить**WHAT KIND OF DOG IS THAT ???****
ОтветитьCovy is the star of stars
ОтветитьMy go to knife is my dad‘s old puma game, warden edition he told me it cost him a couple hundred dollars but he would never tell me that true price.
ОтветитьYep i have tons of memories of my granpas pocket knives he always cleaned our deer with i carry a couple of them daily
ОтветитьYou are boring your dog.
ОтветитьI have a brand new buck pre 64 first knife you pucked up. Brother gift! Not a scratch on it which is wild,im 40 and a father figure/my dads cousin who took me hunting had 3 knives told me to puck one i grabbed that one becuase his brother ( now dead) always carried a buck sane handle bigger blade and he was the father figure/hunting partner i was closest to. Lol mouthful 3 brothers better dads then my own yeah thats fact. Ebay has beat up same knifes for +100
ОтветитьGreat program . Thanks .
ОтветитьBeen carrying my buck 118 for 35 years, it just feels right I like the curve on the tip for field dressing whitetail. I also have a case twin finn set that's what my dad used when I was a kid , beautiful knives but the tips are less forgiving.
ОтветитьI want videos about your dog
ОтветитьDog sitting there like he’s waiting for his turn to talk
ОтветитьOMFG THAT DOGS I BEAUTIFUL ANIMAL
ОтветитьMy grandfather gave me a buck fixed blade no telling how many squirrels met that knife
ОтветитьYour dog is great in this. What breed is it?The thing that I find interesting about hunting knives is that I would be surprised if any were ever used in a meat processing plant.
ОтветитьBuck 110 And a small Swiss army knife
ОтветитьPuppy stole the show hahaha
Ответитьwhat a great dog
ОтветитьI love your dog, Such a good boy! Also a mora companion is an amazing gutting and skinning knife after a 1000 to 3000 stone and strop. I processed my whole deer from gutting to freezer with it.
ОтветитьField dressed only 14 deer in my experience so far but I like a fixed blade around 4" or so .Much easier to clean afterwards
Ответить6 inch boning knives and a 8 inch breaking as well as a 10 inch steak knife....those 3 work best for Me because meat cutting is what I do....those knives are very good for breaking down a whole beef to making retail cuts......that you would take home and cook..
...as always use the knives you are most comfortable with and keep them sharp....😁👍☕️🍩
What a pretty dog and even better behaved
ОтветитьLove my late 90's Marbles Plainsman in 52100....Carry a folding knife (Spyderco PM2) & Leatherman as well ...
To be fair, my Leatherman is with me 24/7 year round....and the PM2 would be enough...
