10K 360 Photo? Insta360 Flow Review & Virtual Tour Workflow for the Pros!

What would you recommend for the insta360 pro2 + h3vr mic? A monopod (would the "Best360 Carbon Fiber Monopod" be good enough?) or a tripod? Is a monopod stable enough for that setup?

I need it mainly to carry it around stick out on my backpack while walking through the streets (for videos of vacations to feel the walk and atmosphere again - I am not getting motion sick by this, already tested it with the 1RS 1-Inch)

Great review, thanks! Still sitting on the fence with this though because the workflow is still so close to DSLRstyle 360 image processing, which I find too tedious. IMO 'good' 8K from a oneshot at 2x90degree offset could be just as good? The NeRF/Lidar aspect however would bring me over the line, so +1 for that. One more thing though, I would assume through the parallax error being quite substantial, how does that go with close objects, small rooms (bathroom, etc)?

i like to use the dji Pocket2 to take 360s: i take three 3x3 Pano-Pics, which results in 27 pictures
but i only have to press the button 3 times, rotate the camera every time by about 120°
takes about 1 Minute to complete
(i don´t use the 3 from the camera generated Panos to build the 360, but use the 27 single pictures and use a software on pc, using RAW)
its very easy to do it even hand-held without a monopod, and because of the gimbal and the small size of camera (comparable to the gimbal of a dji Air 2 drone) its like a nodal-point-adapter.. the lens is very correctly on the right spot
so as long as you turn the camera above the same spot, you get perfect pictures, no stiching errors later on
result: MUCH MUCH better 360 panos than with any 360-camera i ever owned
not 18 MEgapixel or the "fake" 72 Megapixel of the INsta360 X3
but real - i think around 150 Megapixel
you can even increase that further with gigapixel AI

if i use a monopod, i can take 8 additional fotos of the ground and one 9th foto wihtout the monopod of the ground so i get a perfect 360x180° pano

i never see anybody use the Pocket2 for 360 Fotos...
yes: the picture-quality is maybe (colors etc.) not that good than with the Iphone 14
but compared to any 360 camera: worlds-difference
and: it can also use RAW
the thing about it: you dont buy the pocket2 for 360 fotos... you already have it for other stuff, making videos of your travels etc..
so its not realy spending more money..
nevertheless: about 10 times the REsolution of 360 than you get of "normal" 360-Cams
and absolut small form-factor, no additional gadets needed, freeheld fotos easy possible (lot lot easier than with smartphone)

The quality difference between Insta360 1inch images and iPhone images is low, and personally, I prefer using a 360-degree camera unless the NERF thing you mentioned becomes practical. Then it would become very valuable.

You could do this with a Nodal Ninja + mirrorless camera if you figure out the angles, although it's much more tedious. I would be curious to try the DJI OM6 3x3 panorama mode. You would have to repeat that 3 times at 120 degrees apart. Like others mentioned, the pocket can do it as well. This gave me an idea to play around!

I agree with everything on the feature list. I returned the FLOW because I wasn't satisfied with the jpeg quality coming from the wide lens on my 14 Pro Max in low light. If it were bracketed, that could have made a difference. If I were able to use the main lens and shoot in 48mp, that would be game changing, especially if LIDAR data could be used for photogrammetry.

What device are you using to rotate your Canon R5? Do you prefer it over the Mecha C1 from Nodal Ninja?

mate, you are a pro in 360. Why do you mount your phone that way and are surprised you are getting stitching errors? Mount it so it sits properly on a nodal point of the phone lens otherwise there will always be stitching errors. Also smartphones have tiny sensors with tiny pixel sizes which means capturing the same amount of light takes much longer than with much bigger pixel size sensors. They will never beat a professional full frame cameras or cropped sensors.

Really nice, but I am wondering how you fixed the parallax errors for close objects... I mean, the rotation is clearly not made near the "nodal point" of the lens, so I guess it must be a big issue if objects are a bit close... When shooting manually with my Pixel 6a and trying to respect the nodal point, I have difficulties with parallax errors, so here they must be much worse.
Also, hm, talking about chromatic aberration with a DSLR... well... if you have photoshop beta, you also have Lightroom so hopefully you'll get rid of those nasty aberrations and purple fringe...

Love this! I was never fully satisfied with the quality of the 360 pictures coming out of my Insta360 One RS, so I will be buying this gimbal to test it as a replacement. Thanks for sharing your workflow. I really hope Insta360 invests in the 360 options of the Flow!

There are 2 fatal issues with the Insta Flow. (1) The SW is buggy as of 7/6/2023, sometimes it does not save all the 18 images for post stitching, some of the images will be missing, which causes trashy results also, it does not save raw, only jpg files are saved (if successful) (2) The image quality is still pretty low and the 18x image capture procedure is super long, which caused this method nearly useless in practical work flow.
