In other words, it rains often, but we don't get the hard pounding rains or severe thunderstorms that other parts of the country get.

You can describe the weather any way you want but numbers don't lie - 220 days overcast. 155 days measurable precipitation.
Portland is still an awesome place to live but just being real about the weather.

FYI: James Beard was from Portland. eating seasonal foods when they are at their freshest was his idea as in the four seasons restaurant in New York City was his idea. Powell’s Books is not a “library” but a bookstore. i’ve lived here all of my life and right now with this pandemic and people walking around with facemasks on, people are not friendly they don’t even make eye contact with you because they’re afraid of catching the virus somehow. Now if you walk into a restaurant and you’re wearing a face mask and then sit down and takeoff your face mask then people are friendly. You figure! here’s the big thing though, Portland is under economic attack. Shops and malls are closing right and left like the Lloyd center. There seem to be may be 10,000 homeless drug addled individuals living in tents and in squalor all over the city even in the Pearl District and just west of it under the 405 freeway. There, the homeless are treated like rats. The other night I walked through there and they had a strobe light that could be seen for blocks to psychologically ‘persuade’ the homeless to go someplace else. Ironically there was a dog hotel right next door to one of the largest encampments that I had seen in the city. You can see the dogs in The window with their fourth floor views and high ceilings. oh the irony. I also love how the state office building near the Lloyd center has a flag pole on top with the American flag and right under it the prisoner of war flag. Oh so fitting Somehow in what was once America’s most livable city.

Lived & worked in Portland & the surrounding area for years, I do NOT miss dealing with the rush hour traffic and people who do not know how to drive on ice & snow covered roads on the rare occasions the 'weather gods' give the area some.
