Newton's third law - Best Demonstration EVER !! - by Prof. Walter Lewin

i have received alot of comments on this video saying that it does not demonstrate the third law but rather the second.
Actually, when it comes to rockets, all 3 newton's laws apply. in this video, i was only interested in talking about the third law.

Like all objects, rockets are governed by Newton's Laws of Motion. The First Law describes how an object acts when no force is acting upon it. So, rockets stay still until a force is applied to move them. Likewise, once they're in motion, they won't stop until a force is applied.
Newton's Second Law tells us that the more mass an object has, the more force is needed to move it. A larger rocket will need stronger forces (eg. more fuel) to make it accelerate. The space shuttles required seven pounds of fuel for every pound of payload they carry. 
Newton's Third Law states that "every action has an equal and opposite reaction". In a rocket, burning fuel creates a push on the front of the rocket pushing it forward. This creates an equal and opposite push on the exhaust gas backwards.

Omg, why would you even need to teach this, this is all common sense 🤣

I thought he was gonna collide with the wall and bounce back, thereby demonstrating the third law. 😉

Also I saw the bowling ball on a pendulum, that is a classic physics demonstration as well.

Well duh? He could have expanded on that quite a bit. How much thrust was actually applied and how much was required to propel an adult seated on a three wheeled bicycle.

I used to have a chemistry teacher like this that used real world examples instead of textbooks all the time. I got the feeling he always felt like his talents were wasted on teaching. Sadly, he got lung cancer and left. I heard through the grapevine he later got involved in drugs.

I can see why his classroom is jam packed! His lectures must be really interesting!

But when a person faart,why doesn't he gets a push forward 😅

Fortunately I never had such a professor. In my belief, the only way of understanding physics is hard learning. Such demonstrations are no more than an academic joke. One has to understand the principles not their applications.

Students - we Been here 5 years and didn't know that would happen

mediocre minds commenting the professor was so good...
for any teacher who teaches third law of motion it's a basic thing.
it's the mistake of management that doesn't grant things teachers asked for.
