Disable automatic updates on windows 10 permanently
In the services window, please find out the Windows Update service and double-click it.
In the popup window, change the Startup type to Disabled. Then change the Service status to Stop.
Click Apply and OK to execute the changes.
Using the Win + R keyboard shortcut, type services. msc to access your PC's service settings.
Next, scroll down and double-click on Windows Update to access the General settings.
Now, select Disabled from the Startup type dropdown menu.
Once done, click Ok and then restart your PC.
Open Start.
Search for gpedit. ...
Navigate to the following path: Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Windows Components Windows Update.
Double-click the "Configure Automatic Updates" policy on the right side.

also for whoever is wondering regedit does NOT work in win 10 & 11. Yes you can still install Regedit on win 10 & 11 home but anything you change wth regedit, won't actaully apply

I'm old enough to remember computer viruses. They were malicious bits of code from the internet that would infect your computer and make it stop working suddenly. Now viruses are not a major concern, but they've been functionally replaced by these things called "windows updates".

This didn't work for me, not sure why. I followed all the steps. A week later my PC is updating automatically when Im restarting my PC

This do not working. After a couple of hours win check for updates again..and again... and again...also if disable sheduled task, also if set up gpedit policy..no matter what you do, check or uncheck..win 10 go to update again and again.
