Never antagonize a Cannibal

The way Chilton is just laying down in Hannibal’s bed, hassling him is the perfect opening to this scene. We really see how damaged the Doctor patient relationship is to the point of no return

I kind of prefer how he escapes here as opposed to the book. The fact that it was actually Chilton that left the pen behind is so fitting especially when they’re little weasel get it at the very end. Karma

My favorite scene, and a great 'director's trick.' You KNOW Lecter is going to get that pen. It's just the way it is. It's funny when you think about HOW would he ever get that pen - in spite of being in a straightjacket, strapped to a heavy-duty dolly, and a steel mask also locked to the dolly (no mere mortal could even move an inch) - but he does get THAT pen, because he's LEGEND.

how he got the Pen ?..

I love the fact that because of this scene, Hannibal's inevitable escape after his transfer to Memphis is ultimately 100% Chilton's fault, due to his arrogance and incomptence in leaving a pen in Lecter's cell. If it weren't for the fact it's implied that Lecter kills and consumes Chilton after following him to the Bahamas, I think this would warrant Chilton getting fired for ultimately causing the release of a dangerous and notorious serial killer and cannibal, assuming Chilton wouldn't try to cover the situation or seek a scapegoat.

If Hannibal escaped from the facility itself I don’t think he would kill Barney, cause he doesn’t treat him poorly unlike Chilton dose. Remember Hannibal hates people who are rude

I thought for sure Hannibal would find some way to kill chilton as soon as he asked Barney to leave them

But I 100% support the hatred of Chilton. The guy’s arrogance caused more than five people to die.

Chilton's character was positively creepy even though Lector is the evil one. Watch Hannibal Rising since it explains how Hannibal Lector's childhood caused his "monster" to emerge.

How does he get the pen? For me one of the most scary scenes in film history. It's as if he has powers beyond normal.

Chilton was always petty and loathsome, but it turned problematic when Raúl Esparza made him really attractive at the same time.

I love hannibal and hated Chilton. So glad hannibal killed him lol

CROSS CENTURY PEN

HOW DID HE GET THE PEN. ALWAYS WONDERED HOW...

Ah the infamous pen............

It's a shame the cops were cut down as a result of Chiltons mis-deeds, but the good Dr got what was coming to him.

To me this scene always reminded me of Jack getting out of the kitchen vault in the shinning. Seriously how does he get that pen? In the book he's been collecting paper clips and staples and hiding them in his mouth, but here despite being restrained and guarded he gets the pen. It's almost supernatural.

Chilton went into business for himself by trying to take credit for solely solving the case. He put that girl and everyone else in danger, he got police killed from being a selfish prick Not only did this POS doctor break the law by secretly taping a fbi interview but he tried to steal the credit for Clarice's work. He deserved what he got in the end. I wonder if he went on vacation out of the country because he was running from the law. Shame we didn't get to see him begging for his life.

The film implies that Lecter made a makeshift hand cuff key by using Chilton's pen but in the novel, Lecter had one for years prior to his escape.

You have to be a special kind of asshole to make the guy who EATS PEOPLE for a living seem like a better person

the only way his stolen the pin of the pen, is that he hypnotized him with inconscienscous suggestion like "Chilton...put it in my mouth"...like a snake hypnotizing a bird

I preferred Billy Reubin from the book but the doctors anagrams are a nice addition

Amazes me how lecter managed to get free after being imprisoned in that cell

His intelligence is so brilliant he's smarter than Dr Chiltern to psychologically provoke him hence he left his pen on his bed brilliant acting by Hopkins it's all in his eye contact at the end that's what gives me the creeps about him

Chilton gives the impression of being an envious sociopath, riled & grumpy by Lecter´s fame.

Shame we never see what becomes of Dr Chilton. I would love to see what Lector does to him.

Chilton is such a rat(in the stereotypical sense cos an actual rat would be more tolerable and much more appreciated) Decides to expose the lie, tries to bank/piggyback on Dr Lecters information and be a smug prick about it at the risk of Catherine Martins(the Senators daughter mind you) life on the line. What's was he hoping to accomplish from all this? Just cos Clarice wouldn't cow to his "authority"?
