The one eye tip is a good idea. A variation is a partial squint on both eyes for just that crucial two seconds until LED Rube has passed. It would also help if the police started enforcing traffic laws again.

Doc I would suggest that you get with a patient that has issues, and see in real time what works for them, just park your your car 60 feet in front of the car you and your patient are sitting in, simply try different pairs of glasses!

People driving with their high beams on is a big problem!! Last night I had 8 people out of 18 cars that had their highs on!!! Auto makers should get rid of high beams!!! And while they at it get rid of speedometer!! I am yet to see anyone obeying the speed limit!! Turn signals are a waste too!! Guess they figure if they don't use them they never have to replace them bulbs!!!

I disagree with the comment about the yellow glasses. For me, they've been a godsend as they greatly reduce the glare from LED lights.

People who install bright white lights on their cars have a special place in hell. They should force people to use yellow headlights again.

I would agree with you on most of the crappy night vision glasses,
However , I tried the over the glasses style optix 55 night glasses
and I have to say while nothings perfect , they are slightly different than the others
and do really help me .

The tint on them dont seem as dark as other glasses and
I think it said somewhere that optix55 also puts a slight blue
tint in with the yellow .

everyone , try optix 55 .
I have no affiliation to them , I'm just someone who likes the product.
O , the same night pair is also excellent for day .

Glad to see you're not promoting those yellow driving glasses. I'm an optometrist myself and I've also come across several sources stating that these lenses reduce visual acuity by a certain amount, even though the patient may subjectively feel better due to reduced brightness... But of course they do, they're wearing sunglasses! So it's not something I recommend.

Like several other people have advocated here in the comments, I also just recommend that the patient simply tries not to look directly at the oncoming headlights... It seems stupidly logical, but some people apparently don't realize that it might help to, well, not look directly at the bright lights.
And certainly, make sure the windshield and mirrors are cleaned.

Well the night driving glasses really help when it's raining and you get a lot of glare from the water molecules in the air maybe because the ones I have are also Polarized I notice a Major difference on how far ahead they enhance my vision. At night I just use a pair of 1.25 cheater lens seems to be all I need. Not bad for being in my 70's.

The trick of looking to the right or at the fog line (that solid white line at the shoulder of the road) was taught to me in a defensive driving course when I was working for the USFS in 1976. I have used it ever since, through many years of driving semi-trucks and my own vehicles. It really does help. If the oncoming vehicle has very bright lights or is high off the pavement, like trucks and jacked up pickups, I close my left eye. Also, if you have an old windshield, it may be pitted from years of small rocks thrown up by the car in front of you. My insurance company allows replacement of the windshield every 3 years, even if it is not cracked. A new windshield makes a huge difference, so check with your insuror.

c. 1970 Yellow Glasses (shooting glasses) were an optical illusion, the tint actually reduced vision by 10%. In driving school were told to look to the side of the road (slightly) if oncoming lamps were too bright...

My tip for being blinded by headlights at night is to focus on the edge of your side of the road at the horizon point. It’ll keep you on the road and decrease the blinding a bit.
Also a quick flash is sometimes okay to let the other driver know, but don’t aggressively blind them back in retaliation. They might be struggling with a difficult patch on unfamiliar road and you don’t want to cause an accident.

While a yellow tinted lens does reduce light by eliminating the blue light, the human eye is overall most sensitive to yellow light. So by making more things appear yellow it has the sensation of being brighter enough though it may not. For the same reason why turn signals should only be yellow, i don’t understand why manufacturers make them red. Blue light hurts the eyes anyways, so shame on the led headlights now a days.

I’ve tried plain cheap yellow lense night time driving glasses and they reduce the amount of light making it unsafe to wear while driving. The prescription shop in my ophthalmologist office recommended I try using Cocoons low light glasses that goes over my prescription glasses. The lens are very light, allowing much more light than the cheap glasses. It allowed me to see people walking or riding on the side of the road while getting a reduction of the ultra bright blue headlights.

I’ve found really helpful just to rotate head to the right when ongoing vehicle approach - to block the light coming from headlamps to the right eye with a nose. This way you not messing with depth perception, and still can see somewhat clearly right after turning head to initial position

I feel like newer cars are getting brighter and bluer, which doesn't make sense, because blue light causes the damage to the eyes. Eye doctors should sue these car companies.

None of these "professionals", mentioned anything about how the medication you may be on, could impact the natural behaviour of your eyes. I think the only vídeo answers we receive are the one's the government's let us see. Tell me that you searched the hell out of the Internet to find an answer that you believed as 100% true.

Thanks for the great video. I am a gamer and have wondered if I could improve my skills with those glasses. lol I sure need to find something that will.

I learned a night-time driving tip the hard way. If you have to spend hours driving on a highway at night, turning down the dashboard lights is (as you noted in your video), a really good idea. Also, for many newer cars, you can completely turn off the huge, bright map/radio/control touch screen. During a long road trip, my eyes adjusted to the bright light of the map/touch screen glaring into my right eye. Staring out the front window, with the dashboard turned low but the map glaring seemed to reduce my ability to see movement with little light contrast on the roadway (like deer wandering the edge of the road) AND gave me quite a headache after a few hours. By chance, I accidentally turned off the screen and plunged the interior of my car into darkness... within seconds/minutes the roadway seemed to light up. My ability to clearly see the roadway and surrounding area dramatically increased. I am not sure it works as well for short city driving because of stoplights, building lights, etc.
