I was among the last people to stay there. It was losing money due to lack of people living there. Specifically transfer students. Shame really cus it's in a nice location.

Here's the original hospital tiles on the stairs unpainted, Here's the original cells in the cellar, Here's the pre-cast concrete crappers, oh and Here's 1400 more. Built in 1994 to 1996😊. Not to mention seeing the runins of the ancient haunted crazy golf course (circa 2022) and these domes. They are the remains of alien craft, aliens who left after they couldn't believe the shit people put on the Internet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wow this is mental. I stayed in Ashenhurst 2012, and did visit storthes from time to time. Can't believe it's all just being emptied and left... such a massive shame.

The hospital was still open in 1990 so the Huddersfield University accommodation was not built until 1991 at the earliest.

I was here from 2021-2023, and whilst it is a shock to see it shut, it wasn't massively surprising. I remember in first year there were loads of events on at the venue, parties etc, and we had group chats for each block so was easy to meet people etc so first year was really fun, and with having mates so close by in different blocks it was great socially. But in second year there just didn’t seem to be as much going on events wise, and the distance from town and uni just made life a lot harder, and I think lots of others found something similar. The flats were by no means great, but for what you paid though, you got everything you needed in one place for cheap. I have a lot of good memories of the place and the people I met even though i did end up moving out for final year. Probably obvious but thought it might be noteworthy that the flat with loads of writing on the wall at the entrance near the end of the video was a show flat, to give students potentially moving in an idea of where they would be living, and nobody lived in there to what i know

So I lived here from January 1997- July 1997 during my final year - Slade A Flat 6 (with Harvey, Tracey, Yvonne, Sinead, Dave) then in 1998was elected President of the Student's Union (lived in Oldgate and Ashenhurst that year). In 1999 my two brothers Declan and Kevin came over from Ireland and we all lived in North Spring for the year when I was senior resident - it was a tough old year as our friend Scott who lived on North Spring too was killed in a car crash in February that year! My best friend also lived in the gatehouse at the entrance while she was doing her Masyers degree!! Thanks so much for the stroll down Amnesia Lane love Roisin Bartlett xx

I was actually the last student to sign out of this place. It was really weird seeing it completely dead, literally just a month or so before people were outside drinking in the sun, me and my friends were going on walks and chilling on the hammocks.

But, the occupancy was down really low that year from what I understand. I think something like 40% of it was vacant. Those buildings that you walked past on the right at the beginning of the video were already abandoned when we started in September 2023.

I was one of the first lot to move into Storthes when it opened in 1995. I even remember it being built and how they rushed to complete it weeks before the students arrived.

Had 3 awesome years here (Laycock, Boothroyd and Cinderhill). Memories I’ll take with me to my grave.

RIP Storthes. You’ve been amazing

Excellent video, thanks for posting. I had a drink in the bar in early 1980's after playing football on their wonderful pitch. My Auntie Betty used to work in the laundry....the original Asylum had 1000 male and 1000 female inmates plus its own Theatre and Allotments among other things. My greatest fear is that it won't get demolished, these buildings are in superb condition but will already be ear-marked for the "you know whats".... luckily I live several miles away but I'd be deeply concerned if I lived near that site ,for what the future holds.

I lived in here from 2009-2011 after getting into Huddersfield Uni through clearing about 4 weeks before I moved in. Very different experience having grown up in London my whole life but I ended up absolutely loving it. Really good memories here like the local bus to the uni almost crashing at the bottom of the hill when the snow was real bad in 2010 and waiting for ages when you missed the bus 🤣

Will miss this place man. Shame it’s being knocked down.

I live here 2005-2006 in Saville in first year. One of the best years of my life for sure! It was pretty crap, but at the same time we had a small shop on site, D Bar and had an absolute blast so you could go for days without even leaving. Many drunken nights wondering sound.

Now knocked down so they can build houses as apparently it's no longer viable and occupancy rates have been low in recent years.

Reading the comments most people have such great memories of this. I read it was closing and wanted to go and see it one last time (Although not been back for many years!) but didn't get round to it. So thanks for doing this quick tour!

Such a waste of good quality buildings with plenty of life left in them and they were originally funded with public money as well. The university sold Storthes Hall and all its other accommodation to Ubrique Investments back in 2003. I lived in Jenkinson C Flat 7 back in 2004 and it was luxury compared with most accommodation I saw at other unis. The only downside was the distance from the main campus.
