If i remember right most knives the army designed for the army made for utility long term vs marines and special forces moreso for defense or stealth killing depending on era.
ОтветитьGreat video brother! Great knives both of them!!!! I got several SP1's from OKC in Amazon for 27$ I told my self American made for that price, hell yea!
ОтветитьI have both of them but i would choose the sp1. The sp1 has a far thicker tang and the grip is more ergonomic. You can baton with the sp1 all day but the 498 will break like a Kabar.
ОтветитьThe advantage of the round profile of the handle was certainly also that when trying to get the blade between the equipment on the uniform, that is, as the blade looks for a path and an angle in a certain direction as in history between the plates of armor, the knife in the palm turned, as it was needed without ,without disproving the soldier's wrist, if I wrote it clearly..and that is an advantage..(for example, a gladius sword).. .but I don't know if it was an intention or an accident of mass production. In any case, this handle naturally holds and is amazing and simple. There is power in simplicity...moreover, if it is necessary to get the blade into a certain slot or gap between components on a vest or clothing, the handle must be shaped so that the knife automatically turns and finds its direction, otherwise there will never be penetration...have a good time🖐️
ОтветитьNotice handle form by FS daggers,V42 stiletto,Gerber Mark II...the same period the same idea...🤔🤔
ОтветитьThe sheath is not that bad I agree
ОтветитьThere's videos of people striking targets with a ka-bar knife with round handles and the knife turns in their hands. Many people want full tangs because the thinner tangs as used in ka-bar style knives (including that Ontario version you have) break at the point where the tang meets the blade. There is a sharp and abrupt change from the blade to the tang. The most common causes of breakage are throwing the knife and batoning. I wish they'd make these in stainless steel, I mean for a supposed marine utility fighting knife they're going to be exposed to a lot of water. I have the ka-bar Next Generation which is stainless, it's a bit hard to sharpen...
