wonderfully informative video! i lead a greek restaurant's beverage program, and this has been great for our educational purposes! thank you for this.
ОтветитьHi Konstantin,
Great content and great wine selection!
You should also try the Malagouzia variety most notably the wine from Ktima Gerovassiliou.
Cheers!
I enjoy Xinomavro, but i have been going to Greece for over 50 years now, and have a real nostalgic fondness for Retsina too. The problem is that many now in Greece seem ashamed of Retsina. I've tried half a dozen high-end, chic new retsinas that contain so little resin they might as well not be resinated at all. If you order retsina, you want it to taste like retsina. I have found the green and yellow labelled Malamatima brand reliably good. I will certainly try the retsina recommended in this video, but I suspect it will be under resinated.
ОтветитьOENOPS - All are excellent! The white is perfect. ALPHA is also one of my favorites. It has one of the best qualities of greek wine.
ОтветитьTalking about volcanic soil and wines you should visit Canary island Lanzarote and do some video about local Malvasia varieties ,could be very interesting for viewers
ОтветитьMr. Konstantin, do you have any considerations on kumnik monte from North Macedonia? Thanks in advance.
ОтветитьFor Agiorghitiko, the best version of this is produced by Papaioannou and is the Microclima version. If you can find it, stock up as I'm sure you will agree it is outstanding!
ОтветитьMy favorites are Liatiko, Malagousia, Xinomavro and Moscato Spinas. Also Vidiano, Dafne and Vilana.
ОтветитьHello! Your content is amazing!
I suggest to try from Clos Stagasta T-Oinos the 'Mavrotragano' and the 'Assyrtiko'.
Also very intresting Greek choice close to Bordeux style would be the La Tour Melas.
Thank you for your content! :D
Chrori from Siflogo – best orange/amber wine I’ve ever tasted
ОтветитьFunny thing about the Ramnista is that the first time i drank it I said "Feel likes a Greek version of Nebbiolo", so I feel I definately have evolved my pallet here if the master himself says a similar thing :D. Its in the Top tier of wines an amateur like me have tasted and the 94 points is spot on. A wine of this class at such an affordable price is absolutely incredible. Its only 14.5 € in Sweden.
ОтветитьHope you do Croatia next!! This was great
ОтветитьNext time try Retsina Natur from Tetramythos winery, is really delicate and less piny. Cheers
ОтветитьI’ve tasted many wines throughout my life but nothing compares to Economou’s Antigone. A well aged red dry wine that everybody should experience it once in his lifetime. It reminds me of old Barolos and even better and at a much lesser cost! Economou is such a mastermind
ОтветитьI am coming back from greece and have tasted some excellent wines! I visited T-Oinos in Tinos and their top Mavrotragano was incredible, but very expensive. In terms of price quality, I really liked the Argyros Cuvée Gerontampelo Assyrtiko, it had a long and special finale like bread/brioche. Also for assyrtiko, the Biblia Chora Ovilos was excellent. super expressive nose, floral, peach, apricot, ctirus. Also kind of round and honey notes. I really liked the Boutari 1879 Xinomavro, nice complexity with cherry, earth, tomato. I also visited Manousakis winery in Crete and they have excellent red and whites. Their roussane is excellent, buttery, vanilla/honey, pear. Cheers!
ОтветитьSo sad that you didn't have a place for some wine from Gerovassiliou, Thymiopoulos, Karamologos, Sigalas, Skouras, Sclavos or Alpha Estate
ОтветитьI think that comparing like to like pricewise is a fairer way. Furthermore, you are forgetting Vinsanto from Santorini, probably the World's best dessert wine. Dessert wines from the island of Samos are also quite noteworthy.
ОтветитьRetsina is a perfect match with fried red mullet, small fry, octopus (boiled or grilled), fried codfish dipped in batter with skordalia (a delicious garlicky spread) and the like - among many other traditional Greek plates.
There is nothing like drinking a good retsina in a taverna by the sea with a suitable dish. It is a very misunderstood and undervalued wine, probably because there are so many poorly produced cheap wines of the sort available, as well as for the fact that it should be drunk with the right food. Then, you will find that a glass is definitely not enough!
Excellent video. Besides the giants Assyrtiko (the Monsigniori is a very good choice indeed) and Xinomavro (Thymiopoulos is excellent at all price points) I very much like Robola from Kephalonia. Less body than Assyrtiko but equally saline, underpinned by calcareous minerality. Petrakopoulos, Bazigos, Gentilini are all very good.
ОтветитьVery nice review of Greek wines. One thing that many people don't think about when they are in Greece is that it is incredibly beautiful up in the mountains. If you are up in northern Greece, Macedonia, skip the beach for a day and visit, for example, the Kir-Yanni winery. It's a beautiful drive there and they have a nice restaurant with wine tasting.
ОтветитьBringing retsina in this bunch to compare with the others is like bringing a wheelbarrow to a car competition. I think retsina should be considered a wine based soft drink, even when made from good quality wine. It is a same to waste the wine though...
ОтветитьHello there! Greek here. In case you haven't, I suggest you contact your fellow MW, Mr. Lazarakis (Greek who lives here in Greece). He will be of great help, taking you deeper into the amazing work that Greek wineries have made within the last years.
ОтветитьIs Greek wine good? yes.
ОтветитьYou have to try Lemnos white from ΕΑΣ its the one with the white label and the gold coin in the center. Its the best white, Greek islands can offer. And its also really inexpensive
ОтветитьI recommand Saganaki with Retsina. Make sure the Feta is made with feel sheepsmilk. It cuts the fat beautifully and pairs really well with the salty cheese.
ОтветитьYes Greece really has a lot to offer !!!🇬🇷 I just love Greek wines! One of my absolute favourites are Chateau Carras and Hatzimichaelis
Ответитьdude is drunk , isn't he? ... still know what he is talking about...
ОтветитьI was born in Naousa Greece. If you like Xinomavro you should try and taste "Naousa" by Domaine Dalamaras ! Nice review
ОтветитьI'm not surprised about the high scores. I haven't drunk a lot of Greek wines but I certainly will make up for it in the future.
ОтветитьI rarely find good red wine in Greece
ОтветитьAAAggggh... I'm having to watch a 4 minute long ad about ear wax and other nonsense to get to the video - not sure this is the best choice for your channel... I know you provide your content for free - nobody minds short ads, but this is too much. if this becomes the norm I doubt I'll be back very often. (I'm only here so I can forward the video to a colleague in the industry)
ОтветитьThe brands are indeed infinite, every producer in Greece has it's own brand, as a Greek I've never tested a bad wine the quality is indeed at least above the average
Ответитьbro , proper wine tasting requires drinking the wine , not spitting it! Υου have to do it the greek way!
ОтветитьYes.
ОтветитьYou should try wine from Lemnos Island in Greece. I am not sure if you can still call it wine though. The taste is like nothing else.
Ответитьdalamara xinomavro paliokalias is great. orgion from sclavos is also nice, especially considered its price.
ОтветитьGreat review! I missed the Malagouzia but it would be interesting to taste a Mavrotragano or Mandilaria.
By the wy with Retsina I would suggest fried fish
Naoussa is one of my favorite wines. I think most Nebiolo drinkers will be pleasantly surprised by it.
ОтветитьCan you do a camera angle of the wine when talking about colour so we can better see?
Ответитьnice wines but you should try Cyprus wine. Methi from the mountains of Paphos is my favourite
Ответитьin northern Greece we drink more retsina . Welcome 🇬🇷💙🌹
ОтветитьThanks for this review👍! Is that really Riedel Performance Riesling glass in this video ? Seems like there's a mistake in video description 🙄..
ОтветитьTry some bulgarian wine plss!!
ОтветитьRetsina goes with fish bbq ,the taste of fish charcoil wine and pine resin is irresistible.
ОтветитьHey there!
You should try other greek wines!
These are mainstream and they dont support the price they have.
What a question!!!
ОтветитьRetsina goes good with fried fish
ОтветитьWhat about Malagouzia and Fileri?
ОтветитьYou should have gotten some Cretan wine along with those. Rose is a big part of crete, red too, accompanies every meal almost. Really rich flavors
Ответить
