This would have been a hit single, imo. The version on the album did not sound like this.
Bought this album in 1989 and still listen to it today. If you've never heard it, it's great - a gem!
Grebenshikov looks like an American who came to the USSR
I remember seeing this on Letterman. The following year Germany got back together and the year after that the Soviet Union split up/fell apart into the original countries.
Take a look at the year-end Billboard Hot 100 for 1989. A lot of power ballads, club music, Milli Vanilli… He wasn’t really wrong.
Obviously there was good stuff out there, but you had to find it. In terms of where the money was going and the mainstream, he had a point.
wowza! I whole new respect for my man Boris G!!!
I'm Russian and though I'm not his personal fan I can be somehow biased... but after all you for the first time ever get real Soviet rock musician star on air, he speaks pretty well English, he is very charismatic and you just take 1 minute interview asking so common things...Sounds strange to me)
I really dug this song then & still do. A great performance by the whole band & the back up babe as Dave called them. Thank you Don.
Boris Bowie
If this was 2021 he'd get cheers when he said how boring American rock n roll was. He's not wrong, even for this time.
I ran out and bought this cassette the day after this aired.
Wow this is great thanks for sharing
Funny how Boris had to travel from a communist country to make this "Our" music fellow comrades of punk.
Letterman always had musical guests before anyone had heard of them
Incredible
Do the Russians know you're here?
- Uh-uh, it's a secret!
I just heard this artist's name from watching an old 1989 MTV show with the Pixies who requested his song, I'm surprised how many hits this video got in such a short time, he must still be popular
Oh wow this was 13 days before my sister’s birthday lol
The guitar solo was first rate. What happened to my man Larry "Bud" Melman?
Can you upload all of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s appearances on late night?
He has pretty good English. Respect Borya!
Excuse me, what's the matter with Leticia Baldrige? Can't understand
Quite a solo from Sid! And hooray for the return of Larry getting hit in the head with a board! (I think the previous post of that sketch and blooper got lost in the Great Purge a while back.)
Love when Dave addresses the audience lol
Ответить... yay, Donnie-! A very tasty piece of music, here, in-deed...
