I reckon every actor was born to play one particular role in their career above all other...........and for me, De-Niro was born to play Travis Bickle more than any other role he ever played (including Raging Bull).

Re: filmmaking, yes, this was a brilliant way to fully flesh out the main character with a mini job interview. So much gained here in such a small space. Setting, theme, character and the groundwork for the plot. Scorsese man….

Ah I see - you spend your nights travelling around alone on the subway and busses because you can’t sleep. You don’t seem to have gone to school much and you don’t know what moonlighting is. When can you start? Imagine doing this in 2023!? Ah the seventies a more simpler time …

may i say that, though this is by far his finest directed film, the opening scene is ‘appropriate’ enough not per the classical intro # of matters to be answeredealt thru the plot, but rather a promisetup of a self variant story’s inevitable universal end.

Joe Spinell has a habit of appearing in the best films ever -- including the cult classics Forbidden Zone and Maniac.

And even when he's not the lead character, he never failed to give 100 percent and leave an impression.

He was supposed to star in Maniac 2 as a Childrens TV show host who becomes a vigilante after receiving fanmail from abused kids, and it would have been AWESOME. R.I.P.

It's also a crucial scene in that it establishes something that isn’t really mentioned again: Bickle is a Viet Nam vet. Does he have PTSD?

Having watched this film quite a few times now, I think it may be a tad deeper than we realise. I wonder if Scorsese actually made a film referencing MK Ultra psychological manipulation. There are plenty of clues if you watch and listen.

Taxi Driver's New York is like the gates of hell! This foreboding atmosphere that Scorsese managed to capture into the flick is to me what gave the movie its enduring appeal (because 70s NY really was as decadent as the movie portrays).

If a man applying for a hack license says he can't sleep, aren't there other alternatives? Some guy off the street says he can't sleep nights and the tlc rep says "there are porno theatres for that."

Greatest movie of all time to me. De Niro and Scorcese had a passion to this project where there’s no conglomerate studio backing them, just passion and a good story to tell. The display of loneliness Travis goes threw in Ny and thinks he needs to be the hero like In the western’s. Simply timeless 💎 I almost forgot I didn’t give Paul Shrader his props for writing the movie man’s a genius.

Taxi is a superb movie. The good old days when DeNiro was a talented actor. Then he became a hack later in his career and suffers from extreme TDS. Also started to believe he was a tough guy like many of the characters he portrayed when, in fact, he's the poster boy for being a pussy with no cojones. He caved in to big pharma and didn't include the documentary "Vaxxed" in his film festival. He facilitated Harvey Weinstein's serial rapes and molestations, he caved in to his ex-wife's compulsive spending, he said he wanted to punch a US President in the face. DeNiro is a loser and a wimp.
