i did recorder and a soprano one for recorder club in 3rd grade and moved to clarinet a grade later, then i just never played it and i’m thinking about trying it out again

Forget about the "real instrument" argument, who cares. The recorder just sounds terrible lol, as in the timbre of it, could not even listen to that whole song. It's bloody awful.
Real question is should it be an instrument...answer: no

Funny I never learned recorder in school. We had kazoos hahaha! And later through my butt on the saxophone 🎷 and got really good at it and later on clarinet

He is a very talented musician - and even he, with all his skill, cannot make that thing sound good. It is just some high-pitched squwaaal that wrecks our enjoyment of the piano. Bin it and learn a real instrument.
