How Good Was Daniel Ricciardo Actually?

Loved watching DR back in the day. He was so spirited and tenacious. Mad respect for him.

On wins, he rates in the top 5% that have ever stepped in an f1 car

He also saw what webber went through with vettel & could see that starting to happen with him & max.
It was good to see him & lando together though was just a shame the mclaren didn't get good until 2024

I doubt Vettel left Red Bull because he was scared of Daniel. I think he felt like his time at Red Bull was done, the car was not championship contender, and Ferrari had an open position. Ofc Daniel was great that season, but a 4x WDC wouldn't yield so fast to a new driver.

Unfortunately, he could only drive the car as his race engineer called the race. I remember many times in his McLaren and later the junior team car where he was very disadvantaged by the teams' race calls. The tears he had while talking to the Sky F1 team at the end of the Singapore race show that he still has a desire to race, but give him a better race engineer so that he can compete at the top again. Ask all of the great racers, they could race anything, but without a good race strategy, you will end up nowhere.

Marco ruined the Danny, Max partnership

He’s similar to Alonso in that they both should have achieved more.
Both were expecting to be a leading team’s main driver, but along came Hamilton and Max which completely changed both teams’s priorities.
Though Danny has the personality, Fernando (still?) has the enduring talent.

Was hoping this video would have some insight into driving style, car characteristics and performance between teams. Unfortunately, it was just a recap of his results without any of that context which is a shame. Didn't really tell us how good/bad of a driver he is nor did it delve into the politics :(

I think that Danny would have been world champion if Max did his f2 seasons (even just one) or if Nico Rosberg stay one more year at Mercedes (and of course stayed at Red Bull)

Verstappen outscored him and that was tough to take. That looks to me the only reason to go to a team lower in the ranks and not fitting his personality.

all he had was "potential" that he never was able to achieve. a large majority of what he did any other average driver could have done, but he's such an overrated driver so people saw the most normal things to be super.

The way his career fizzled out is kind of a bummer. Hopefully, the millions of dollars and memories of racing in F1 help him sleep at night. I wonder if he'll do sportscars or something.

Became a fan watching DTS, and it's frustrating knowing how things worked out, and wondering what somebody should do when given opportunities.
I heard he wasn't interested in Cadillac/ Andretti, in F1. He's had offers from Aussie Supercars, and WEC, so I hope to see him racing somewhere next year!

It's a bit suspicious that right after he announced, he is leaving the team, his car started failing a lot more often than before
