they should have renewed the patent and just not charged for usage. Now someone else will take the patent and charge everyone insane amounts for these peoples hard work and good intentions.

If sheep fur (wool) can be used as well, that would make it scaleable as well! There is a massive surplus in the global wool industry

I used to work on a boat. We have mats that aren't made of humans. That's why we don't use them.

Oil companies I suspect wont use hair to help clean up oil spillages due to the amount money that they invest in other companies to create mats, sprays and other things to reduce that amount of tax they have to pay.

I imagine they aren't using it due to production cost, relying on donations so the supply could be unreliable, the fact that you could like produce other tools etc more efficiently and in larger quantities in a smaller time frame. While it's incredible to see this work and it be natural lets not pretend it's the most efficient way to clean an oil spill in the sea.

the amount of plastic packaging used to ship them the small batches of hair seems un environmental. they should consider making sure a minimum amount is sent.

Unrelated to their business, but damn it's sickening to know there's people out there that are okay with what harm they do to the planet and expect kind people, such as matteroftrust, to clean up the messes for them. Thanks for all you do!

What about making dryer lint matts? That would also work if they used that knitting machine, wouldn’t it?? AND also a good use for the dryer lints? Also, I hope that they are recycling the hair Matts? With the oils on them? They could it them into little bricks or press them and make fire starter ms for wood stoves or campy with those. Who ever decides to use this idea, make sure you credit me and give me a cut of the money of you use my ideas please this time. Thanks for listening.

So do Bullrushes. That was discovered in the late 80's, but because an industry couldn't capitalize on it as a solution, it was buried, and I've yet to see any mention of it since.

This is wonderful! Wishing them all the best. It's a shame BP didn’t utilize them more in the clean up. The hair mats sinking still would've been a better solution than all the chemicals they used to sink the oil, yeah? Sounds like some under the table dealings ...👀
