Nuke is an amazing program and I love working in it. Anyone really interested in this video should read up more on NukeX, great compositing software. Node based compositing making it very user friendly as opposed to layer based in After effects. After effects is also cool just not as amazing as Nuke

I should've stuck with vfx after high school 7 yrs ago

Movie visual effects today bore me.   They all look the same.  Every company uses the same programs and does the same things.  There is very little "Special" in VFX today.  Its become a "McJob" farmed out to the lowest bidders.     Who the hell would want to sleep under their desks all week for something that looks like every other film out there?.  Not me.

I would say Nuke and Maya are pretty much industry standard and considered the best software to use especially if you want a job working in VFX at a professional level. Of course you can learn on anything but those two are usually the programs of choice and there's also Houdini. Which is fantastic, anyone saying After Effects and C4D are the best don't know what they are talking about and I suggest you stick to Video Copilot tutorials.

I wouldnt use after effects, I believe its outdated especially for compositing. Nuke is what we use in the industry, and for matte paintings, photoshop, for 3d stuff, 3ds max, maya, modo, zbrush, cinema 4d, any of those would do.

try Adobe After Effects for the main compositions ;) the rest may be done with 3D rendering programs, such as Cinema 4d (+ syntheyes)
