I have the same concerns especially I have a really cool 911 Turbo but a McLaren is really something..As much as I like the MC-12, I mite have wait for 650s which has a much better track record..

All McLaren cars should be sounding like the 12c and P1.

The 540 is not built the same way the C-12 is. When you learn a little more about the C-12 you'll find the C-12 is racing, the other for 'touring.

From what I've read, as long as you pick a car with an ending VIN number above 1200 or so, you can avoid a great deal of the issues related to the early cars.

The motor in your Mc, has a RACING flat plan crank that is going to sound a lot different than a normal crankshaft.

You will find, that after you start the car, lower the window and the door will close without any fuss. The rubber gaskets around the door windows are very thick to stop air pressure from making noise.

Stay away from a remapped 12C, standard is the way forward

12c is a supercar bargain at the min £75k. nothing else offers this performance at this price

I love the 12c but the reliability is horrible!!!!! You need the warranty which is 4000 a year and a friend had one and in 3 years he had 176,000 in warranty repair 2 transmission an engine cause of an small oil leak little stuff but that transmission is scary for faliure .. even though the warranty covered most of it you have to take into account the amount of downtime he literally had it sitting in a shop for about a year out of the three being repaired and it takes months and months to get stuff hand-built from McLaren however I love the cars and I love the brand there is nothing better for the bang for your buck in terms of speed than a McLaren especially the 720's my God is it beautiful

I honestly used to hate this car, especially at the beginning when it came out, and a bit even the whole McLaren brand! Maybe as an italian Ferrari lover i couldn't really accept it going against the 458 and being even better on some points! Now i'm totally in love with it, it looks amazing and even the sound get me crazy. For now I can't say the same about the new 570 and 540, but i love all the previews models based on the 12C, the 650S and the holy 675LT, one of the best cars ever made!

Don't do it Sam. Though it opened the doors for mclaren to come from niche to a more public audience, the mc12 is known for some serious repair bills now that they are a few years old. Great car, but full of bugs.

You can buy a liberty walk kit for the 12c, to make look like the liberty walk 650s

Sam, I would seriously consider this car. I know of the reliability issues but honestly I think you could chance it. It's such a nice car, super fast and extremely good looking. In my opinion - better choice than a 540c because in that you'll always be looking at the 570 etc... and it wont give you that raw rush feeling.. The 12c has insane amounts of character.

Love the newer Mclarens especially the 570s but I don't think the styling is quite there with the 12C, it doesn't look as sleek and maybe a bit dated.
