What about adding bearings instead of using just screws? Would it worth it?

Glad I found this video needed some 30" drawer slides and cheapest being $60 for one set is to much. Also I have a cnc and hoping to be able to batch these out. Thank you for the cut list.

Hello Mr. Heisz, I hope you are doing fine. How did the runners behave after two years? My concern is the threads of the screws biting and scraping the wood of the runners, have you noticed anyting of this? Thank you for sharing so clearly your good work, greetings from the other end of the continent.

Building this, cutting the slots right now, this is why I got into woodworking during pandemic, this kind of diy stuff, and for sure your channel inspired me I could build tools and do it myself, I didn't need to buy very much, it's everything I'm about!

Amazing. I was breaking my head to create that (a wooden max opening drawer slider) and you did it so simple. Loved it. Where do I pay you for saving my brain?

I made some of these with a minor variation. Instead of gluing the hardwood runners directly to the drawers and cabinets sides, i gluedthe hardwood runners to a piece of luan. Four per drawer. I did that so I could adjust them to fit, rather than calculated as my work is ahem, not as precise as Johns. They attach with eight countersunk screws each going through the luan. Rubbed some candle wax on the contact surfaces and the drawers slide like glass! Thanks John!

Thank you for sharing this inspired creation. I'm curious why you made the center slide 2 inches wide. It occurs to me that you could make a pair of single slot "half" slides out of the same 3/4 inch stock as the runners (assuming you use hardwood for everything), then flip and glue them together to make a 1 1/2 inch slide. This would have the added virtue of allowing you to use up all of that 3/4 inch oak you have laying around from your kitchen renovation (okay, maybe that's just me). A second thought is that, the screw threads may cause unnecessary wear and tear. What do you think of the idea of cutting small pieces of brass or steel tubing to slip over the screws? This would also serve as a consistent depth stop. There may even be a similar hardware product out there that I'm unaware of. Again, thanks so much!

Is it OK to paint the slides 🤔 using cabinet 🎨 and it still slide easily 🤔 I may make mine for a kitchen and thought about painting them since plywood is cheaper and easier

Hey John. I was doing some research because I'm about to build my first drawer here soon. I really liked this idea. I have the tools to build something like this, so why not build it instead of using all that money? Thank you so much man.

This is awesome! For some reason here in Portugal the metal full extensions I used to buy in USA for less than 10 bucks are over $30 here! Plus, these things solars gum up eventually. I like the idea of waxed sliding wood instead of the bearings

Very good idea - thanks, John!

Also; plywood seems like a better choice than solid wood :)
Less chance of warping - which I think is important when all the parts are part of a mechanical moving system.

(If the shape changes due to moisture, or the wood drying unevenly or whatnot, everything could lock up)

So yes; easier, since it's already a uniform thickness.
But also the better choice for this project, i think :)

John you must have been a Tool & Die maker as I was for over forty years when I saw you pull out your calipers and measure, this is the way I measure also. Took a woodworking class for over twenty years at local community college they all laughed at me for measuring this close. Great tips on slides love your gear movement on vise, I think I would need a dividing head and Bridgeport to make this one. Your teaching skills are excellent keep doing what you love !

Very cool and great design! My only worry would be the machine screw threads wearing out the slide over time. Maybe make the holes bigger on the slides and use a nylon washer over the screw? Either way, I love it!

I only just now saw your video about full extension drawer slides made from wood. Great! Two questions...Is there a predictable way to scale the dimensions up or down for shorter or longer drawers? What is the nominal weight carrying capacity of these slides, as built in the video? Thanks. You're an inspiration to those of us who are late bloomers in wood shop.
