MacBook Air M1 - still worth it in 2024?

Thank you for this video! I am finally upgrading my Macbook Pro Late 2015 to MBA M1 and while I debated if I should get the M2 instead, I just can’t justify the difference on the cost because there’s no really difference on the performance between the two.

Also, thank you for using it for editing because I’ve been looking for someone who tests it for editing and I’m glad I came across your video.

I just bought one for 250$ dollars. Was it a good deal? The screen was broken. I bought another and changed it my self. In the total I spent 370$

But will a M1 MacBook Air bought new now get 4 years less MACOS updates than a current model though?

I'm still using this MacBook Air M1 as my daily laptop because it's so lightweight and portable. It can still handle not just basic stuff but also gaming (I play The Sims 4 - no issues. The performance is smooth). When editing on Photoshop it can handle pretty well. As well as for video editing, I'm mainly use Final Cut Pro. Everything is smooth when editing and when rendering but It would be wise to use 512GB as when rendering it uses a lot of space on your SSD if you're editing a duration of video for at least 20 mins and above. You need 512GB. 

And the battery life is so amazing! It will last you almost a day from using it.

This is the best Air they ever made. I think they accidentally put the best chip inside And the price is cheap lol

The Geekbench scores you are showin are from different versions. The M1 and M2 score much higher in Gekkbench 6.2. Otherwise great video😊

I'm curious in the test with FCP, was playback on maximum resolution or did you go with better performance? Because you I don't feel it's necessary to edit at full res the entire time.

I just got a 2020 MacBook Pro M1 for around $680 US dollars on eBay that's optioned with 16gb of ram and its standard 256gb ssd, I'm upgrading from a 15in mid 2015 MacBook Pro it is still fairly useable in todays age as I had it through December of 2023 up until this week in which I will put to rest. I had replaced its battery with a new one, as well with its speakers and ssd to a 1TB along with using open core legacy to get the latest patches and it has still been useable throughout my first semester of college. I would still be using it but I had an opportunity to get into apple silicon with the specs this M1 had, So now I am just listing it in my local Facebook marketplace to recoup some costs with this purchase. I am overall pleased so far with its battery life and speed, even the touch bar is still taking some getting used to but overall it isn't as bad as you'd think so if y'all are in the market for one go for it just make sure you get one with 16gb of ram so your device is future proofed

Does it still get update on that macbook? Can it handle big games? And does After Effect and stuff work too?

All I hope for the M-chips is that they can be supported for more than a decade. Not in terms of software updates but in (security and bug fix) updates as a whole.

As someone looking to grab an upgrade for my girlfriend, I’m looking at the M2 Air. The upgraded web camera and redesign is the main factor behind the decision. Though the M1 Air is a beast in its own right. Great video!

That’s a MAJOR upgrade now I don’t have to use open core legacy patcher to update to latest OS. 😅. NOWWWWW my ecosystem is fully up to date.

Got this M1 even when M2 and M3 was avail but i didnt regret one thing, love the battery life, works well for what i need especially web based work as well as multiple excel sheets and canva. i honestly do not regret and i got it at a discount as they were trying to push the newer models

I can only find this $700 at Walmart new

I bought my M1 (8 CPU, 8 GPU, 16 NPU, 16 GB memory, 1TB storage) in August, 2021. It has been a phenomenal machine. Unless you need to do very heavy lifting (very complex video editing, advanced audio editing, Mathematica, etc.), it will be all you need.

Do not buy an M1 MacBook Air 2024. If you already have one, keep it. If you want to get a MacBook Air, get the M3.

Got one in December and love it. For all the basic stuff I do, it's perfect. Also, great compact form factor and insanely solidly built. This is all most of us need for the next three or four years.

Absolutely Useless and garbage. Cant switch to Linux or Windows via hardware. Cant upgrade memory. Cant upgrade SSD. Cant replace anything and stuck in Apple ecosystem. I pass.

After finding out this video was the 8gb version, I found one on Facebook Marketplace that is 8gb/256 and paid $500 for it. It’s always a risk buying used on Facebook but I got it home and it is in perfect condition! No scratches, no dings, nothing! I checked the battery health and it is 100% with only 16 cycles. I also found out it has the original Apple warranty until November 2024!

I saw a use M1 MBA last weekend for sale for $450. I could have brought it down to $380 but after carefully looking at the screen I notice some dead pixels so I skipped that. Been looking at an M1 Mac Mini and MBA for the last month and my aim is to get a M series by the end of the year.
