I'm pretty sure the term hot rod is derived from the practice of deleting entire cooling systems to reduce weight and allow for the faster quarter mile speed

Dude... Hot rods comes from when you would heat the frame rails of a car to drop it down and change the centre of gravity. You would make the rods HOT, to bend them to be lower when you re mounted the various components.

Hotrod is a car which is hotter then a normal car and rod is reference to a custom built car as in. , That is my rod then a hotter engine then stock . you have a hotrod.

What would be cool is if someone built a smaller batmobile for the kids to cruise around in. I know it isn't a rat rod, but I think the kids would love it not to mention many viewers

Furthermore the stupid words at the top of the screen are incorrect. Rat rod comes from using an old rotten car that is typical to find mice or rats had lived in it while it sat for years. Then trying to make a hot rod out of that. That is what rat rod is!!! It is not a year specific matter like the dumbass that made this video wants you to believe!

All that text and theory about hot rodding origins and not a single word about the origin of the term Rat Rod. In the early sixties there were a couple of popular comic magazines devoted to hot rodding. One was CARtoons. An iconic image of the time was a giant-sized, wild looking rat piloting exaggerated comic roadster hotrods with ridiculously long floor shift levers reaching above his head. Thus, Rat rods.
