15 Reasons To Become A Software Engineer

Software engineering is truly the closest thing to a perfect career. This is why I quit banking/consulting, this is why I now tell EVERYONE to go into tech.

Learning to code was literally the best decision of my life and nore people should get into this field.

I used to be a nurse before becoming an SWE and I almost never worked OT and I almost never took my work home with me. In all reality, I worked a fraction of the time I do now b/c I really really love what I'm doing at my current job.

I think it's harder to be an SWE than most SWE's like to admit. Loads of people want to be one but only some reach the level where they actually do. I don't think the low barrier to entry is even that real. Sure, you don't need a degree, which makes it much easier to get a job in the field, but you'll still need to bust your arse as if you did have a degree in it.

The interview process varies greatly from company to company, esp if you aren't working in FAANG in my experience. I think they are all pretty easy outside of FAANG in my experience though.

What are your thoughts on Cybersecurity?

Coding is fun, In general problem solving is fun.
Thats the best and main reason to become a programmer or software engineer.

I bought your system's design interview course, it was cool and all but after a couple of videos that lisp becomes super annoying, also "as you can imagine" is repeated 1000 times. You should try a speech-language pathologist (SLP). Just some constructive feedback, I hope you don't take it the wrong way

Amazing video, Clem. I would say there is a hidden perk, software engineering can be a great field to invest time into if you are super competitive, hence the popularity of platforms like Leetcode. It feels great to see the rewards if you invest the time and aim for the top and I feel like there is no other field that can match this level of satisfying.
