I watched this video and i tried one more time to make a sourdough and it works! Today, after 7 days, i baked my first two breads, very tasty and beautiful! I can't belive...
I tried first to make sourdough 4 years ago and all the informations were so weird and complicated but you explained everything so natural, thank you very much! My kids also loved the sourdough bread. God bless you and your family!

Welp, that was informative and encouraging as well. Now off to the store to get my flour. Looking forward to trying it for myself. Thank you for such a great video on how to do this. Seemed intimidating before I watched your video. Now I feel empowered to try it out.

I’m new to sourdough stater (2 days to be exact, had a family member teach a group of us over the weekend as a gathering party), had a few questions for you, the stater (whatever was left in the jar actually, I fed it and watered it) that my cousin gave us in the fridge, but yours is outside, why? My cousin said to feed it every 10 hours (I feel like we’ve acquired a new pet), do you do that? I don’t see you putting it in the fridge, or do I leave it in there if I’m not baking daily, as long as I’m feeding it, does it even need a fridge? I just subscribed and I love your videos, I’m catching up, but your way of baking is more like my style. I loved learning to make it this weekend, but his method was a very lengthy process, how many hours from when you actually mix the batter to putting it in the oven? Thank you in advance.

I noticed you used the same spoon in your new starters after stirring your mature starter. This alone would make your new starter not so new. Just noting this so your viewers know that theirs will not be ready nearly as fast.

What if you used a cloth before but it rose up to the top and fell down dramatically. I’m assuming air wasn’t getting inside the jar because the cloth was all dirty

Thanks a lot for this video! I started the process and am on day 4 now but it doesn’t start… I already tried putting it in my rice cooker on the warm setting for a bit but still nothing is happening. I am using white, whole wheat and rye with equal grams water. Do you have an idea of what could be going wrong?

I am loving your videos! I'm following your starter recipe and have a question. At day 6 I started adding 1tsp of rye to my unbleached ap flour mix. It doubled nicely on d6. Day 7 it doubled within an hour. I halved and fed again 12hours later so two feeds that day. Today is d8 and once again an hour after feeding it has more than doubled. I see bubbles when I look inside (looks just like your OF did in this video when re-established) but don't see many bubbles when just looking at the outside of the jar. I don't understand why it is doubling so soon. Should I be feeding less than the 1/3c flour? Is it ready to bake? I'm sure I'm making this more complicated than necessary and apologize for the newbie questions. Looking forward to your expertise advice!

Sorry if I missed this but how do you store your discard if you’re not using it the same day? Or if you don’t have enough to bake with yet? Also sorry if I missed this too but how do you increase your starter if the recipe calls for more? How long after feeding it, to increase the amount for baking, do you wait to use for baking?

Thank you for explaining this. I had no idea what a starter was until now. I've been watching your videos thinking what the heck is a starter. Why is store bought bread less healthy? I get flourless sprouted grain bread which I thought was healthier than a lot of other brands. Is it the preservatives or preference? Just curious. Thanks again. I really enjoy your cooking videos.

I did the exact same thing with my starter, I accidentally baked my starter too! I felt like it was my baby - I was super sad! I got a little bit of starter from the very bottom and was able to revive it!

I used Gold Medal bleached flour that I had on hand. I just wanted to start it and see if it worked. The first 24 hours there was absolute no activity. Just for kicks I fed it the next day and sat it closer to my propane stove for warmth and again, very little if any activity. Do you know what’s going on with it?

I just found your channel. Your video has gave me more confidence in making sourdough bread. I started my sourdough starter on the 4th of January but yet to make bread with it. So today I am going to make my first bread. Then make a bunch of discard bagels and English muffins. I’m excited and can’t wait to see how it comes out. Thank you again.

Why must you discard? What is the purpose? It seems like you should be able to just give it more water/flour. I'm confused and still learning. 😁

Your side by side comparison is not quite true. You are using the same spoon as in Old Faithful into all three babies and since it takes so little of Mother to regrow I believe they are super active from Mom.
My first 2 starter attempts molded by day 3 or 4. Went to clean jar each day when feeding with rye and had success!🎉
I do like your bread recipe since my first attempts with exactly measuring were doughy so I hope going by sight will yield better bread. 😊

What temperature do you keep you house at? During the winter we don't keep the house super warm. (67) and find our sourdough is pretty slow.
