12 points to The Netherlands. The winner of Eurovision 2024. Nostalgia from the 90's.
Joost said that he will bring a huge surprise on stage in the finals that will shock the world.
This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.
Ik had het nog niet gehoord 😂😂😂 Die eerste seconden zijn idd 'how much is the fish' 😊 Mijn ding is het niet, maar gaat goed zijn voor Eurovisie.
I like this video 🔥
Dat Piano stukje doet me denken aan 2 Unlimited brothers on the 4th floor.
The first time i heard it I thought it was a fun silly song. But when I read the translation and the meaning behind the song, i stared lo like it a lot.
React to Norwegian song, Gate - Ulveham. Is problably closer to the theme of your channel.😸
All of the above...
it is a mix of everything you mentioned.
That song is not for me - it is not funny at all and not as catchy as the song delivered by Croatia. I know the hype around "Europapa" is real - but well, it is just not my music.
This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is gabber music - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, and the sub genre is called happy hardcore. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.
The lyrics have a lot of layers:
Europe let’s come together!
It’s now or never!
I love you all!
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Visit my friends in France
Or take a long walk to Vienna
I want to leave the Netherlands
But my passport is gone
Fortunately don't need a visa
To be with you
So take the bus to Poland
Or the train to Berlin
I have no money for Paris
So use my imagination
Do you have a euro please
Say "merci" and "please"
I lost everything
Except time
So am travelling every day
For the world is mine
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Eu-ro-pa!
Ich bin in Deutschland
Aber Ich bin so allein
Io sono in Italia
but still I feel pain
Am running from myself
Calling for "help!" all day long
Yes I even give people money
But there is no one to help me
I don't need es-car-gots
Don't need fish 'n chips
Don't need paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
Turn on the radio
I hear Stromae with "Papaoutai"
Won't stop until they say
"Yes, yes, he does that very well ey!"
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Eu-ro-pa!
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa….
Welcome in Europe boy!
At the end of the day
We are all human beings
My father once told me
It's a world without borders
I miss you every day
Is what I secretly whisper
You see dad
I listened to you
Is what I secretly whisper
You see dad
I listened to you
Pretty sure its a protest song
My 6 year old girl loves it so much. We sing and dance on it all day. 💃🏻🕺🏽
I am curious why you call yourself Viling as you also say you come from Nederland. Nederlanders never where Vikings.
There is also a live version available now
12 points great song🎉
He lost his father to cancer when he was 12, and his mother died a jaar later from hearth desaes, hè was an orfen on young age. He watched Eurovision with his parent and promised his dad he would be making a eurovision song. And so he did. Its a tribute to his father and mother.
You really got the point when you said “closing a chapter” with his parents. Joost lost both his parents when he was 12 and 13 years old. Since then he’s been struggling with this trauma. He said on a interview that this song can be interpreted as a closure to this sadness, like he’s finally moving on from this trauma. To be honest, most of his songs have really sad lyrics and a happy beat.
Also he used to watch Eurovision with his parents when he was young and his dream was to go to Eurovision, so now he’s finally doing it!
Nederlân - Fryslân, tolve punten
Europe is not on fire
The music and music video format is made in 90s style. The music is 90's Eurodance with Happy Hardcore elements.
Happy Hardcore was very popular in the 90s in the Netherlands
At the beginning of the song there is a shout.
"Europe" ""lets come together" "is now or never" etc. That is a reference to Scooter
The piano melody in the chorus when he sings Euro pa pa pa pa pa hey. Is a reference to Charly lownoise Mental Theo who made Happy Hardcore in the 90s.
e.g
Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - Your Smile
Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days
The hard last part of the music is Made by DJ Paul Elstak Who also made Happy Hardcore in the 90's.
e.g
Dj Paul Elstak - Luv You More
Dj Paul Elstak - Rainbow In The Sky
He is also in the car in the video. DJ Paul also made Gabber (Hardcore) music.
GabberHouse was very big in the Netherlands in the 90s. It was a youth culture that originated in the Netherlands.
1 in 3 young people was Gabber (age 14 - 24). Those young people dancing (Hakkuh) in the video they look like the 90 Gabbers. Bald head or very short hair, Australian (Aussie) training suit, Nike Air Max shoes.
Forgot to say.
The birds in the beginning of the music video are a reference to "Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days". The original music video for that song also starts with birds in the sky
Conclusion the music can't be more Dutch than this
please also react to his live video of europapa and dont forget his performance on lowlands 2023!
Dat laatste deel breekt me iedere keer.
Indeed it's about closing a chapter. But you're the first one that shares the idea of making the analogy with Európe.
Both Joost and Europe had their struggle, but to unite ships and bridges (to the past) have to burned.
Joost has never mentioned this layer, maybe to avoid political load on the song - i don't know.
Garbage song with a garbage message.
FINALLY we get happy hardcore at Eurovision!
I thought you were Italian SORRY, song NOT SURE, and Dutch is FINE❤
Interestingly Scooter was heavily influenced by DJ Paul Elstak, the guy in the car at the end. Paul was one of the first hardcore DJ's and laid the foundations for happy hardcore. In that sense this is a tribute to a true Dutch cultural thing from the 90's (the hardcore & gabber movement).
The text is actually powerful once you listen to it. The song has much more depth than most people will get from it.
Ik zeg 12 points for The Netherlands ❤❤❤
I have seen quite some reaction video's because i enjoy it. You are the first who actually got close to the meaning of the song by listening. I am quite amazed you got quite close to the meaning of the ending.
Fellow dutch metalhead that thinks it is an excellent Eurovision song. It is catchy, lot's of influences and a great catchy blend.
Een hakkende metalhead er zijn er meer 😂😂😂😂
Well, isn't this the story of our lives? I think Joosts story is especially sad. But we all go thru the same faces. Joost has managed to compress it all in about 3 minutes. This number is a joy of reqonaging, the up's an the down's. The past and the current. For me Joost has won, no matter the outcome of eurovision.
Joost Klein❤❤❤❤
Your review of this song taught me so much, thought I saw everything but obviously not. Thumbs up for you, you did a great job and I appreciate that, Greetz from your new follower from Appingedam, The Netherlands ;)
No ! Its not an atack on Europa! Its about freefom we have in Europe. And above he is closing his grief about the loss about his parents and hé leaves his memories behind.
Scooter was influenced by the Dutch hardcore scene
Funny, that all those reactions video's, no one noticed one of the master minds behind this, DJ Paul Elstak, did you not notice him?
Justice ⚖️ for Joost ✊🏽
Ответитьhahah good to see u hit the hakken
The song is a protest against euroskeptic movements, as well as him telling his own story
Ответитьi also got teared up in the last part. bcuz everything his dad told him is true and as a 90s-2000s kid we all thought that but the evil people keep making this ideology not true thats why we need to change that
Thank you, metalhead, fir sharing your Live reaction. 💟🙏🎶
And btw, Great "Hakken" 🕺🏻
