Summary: As American Christians it seems like we never stop fighting the monster of more. The desire for more stuff, more money, more experiences and more fun. The problem is it’s never enough. We end up in a constant and unsatisfying pursuit of more.The Bible teaches that more does not equal fulfillment and that there is a satisfaction in life that comes only from God.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 (NLT) Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

Philippians 4:10–13 (NIV) I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.11I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.13I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

1. I can learn to trust the eternal purpose of God.

Philippians 4:10 (NLT) How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me.

Genesis 50:20 (ESV) As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good,to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Esther 4:14 (ESV) For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Daniel 4:17 (ESV) The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.’

Philippians 4:11 (NLT) Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.

2. I can learn to trust the unfailing power of Christ.

Philippians 4:12–13 (NLT) I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Luke 1:37 For nothing is impossible with God.”

Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV) Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Philippians 3:7–8 (NLT) I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ

3. I can learn to trust Gods unchanging promises.

Philippians 4:19 (NLT) And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
