I'm Irish lived in Ireland my whole life and istg every time I see an
American Irish person going on about
how they're of "Irish ancestry" and act “stereotypically Irish” or act like they might as well have lived here because they visited tourist attractions one time here and then they actually don’t know anything about our culture or history It gets on my nerves, like it feels disrespectful especially when more often than not those people only know
1: weren’t considered white
2:potato famine
3: A lot of us emigrated to America
Please just educate yourself if you’re going to claim you’re Irish at least learn about things like idk years of civil war , the language which is still present despite the last monolingual Gaeilge speaker long gone, how we actually act generally, etc.
Anyways sorry for the rant, just read or talk to someone actually from Ireland
Irish were discriminated for being Catholic both in america and england, but the level of this mans ignorance is astounding.
ОтветитьAs a Brit with Irish ancestry I can agree with the premise of this video so long as you are shining light on the fact that European groups have faced opression and discrimination as well as non-Europeans.. But if you are trying to say that thanks to scientific racism of the time that despite the fact Irish are objectively white that it doesn't count as white people facing said discrimination and oppression then I'm gonna have to disagree
ОтветитьA recent study claims that original Irish people were black, or tanned skin
ОтветитьThis is the first time I’ve ever heard a Blackman say this out loud without mocking it thank you lad tblack guy I told this said i minimized his struggle and then proceeded to punch me in the face
ОтветитьWhere did the term “black Irish” come from?
ОтветитьSomehow Catholic germans and french were white but not Catholic irish and italians
ОтветитьI'm Irish and the British don't like us that's why they had signs up with that on it
ОтветитьYes the Irish were persecuted but what definition of “white” are you talking about? When I think of white people, I think of a fair skin tone.
Ответитьthe black irish .my mom spoke of them.
ОтветитьIrish slaves were cheaper than black and sold by the english into slavery in the west indies. Hence the Jamaican and West Indian accent.
ОтветитьThis man the goat
ОтветитьI don't need to hear an opinion from somebody who can't even find Ireland on a map. And I'm not talking about Irish-Americans.
Ответить😂😂😂😂 this foo read a random book writen from some random 😂😂 and know he isban expert on it ... this culture is to much ,they are an infestation.. so every book i read is true omg 😂
ОтветитьAnother garbage entry from this gentleman. Have the day that you deserve...
ОтветитьMore blacks more dogs more Irish ☘️
ОтветитьI may only be an Irish American, but I want to recover the culture that got washed away over generations in America. The real culture. Not the plastic shamrocks or white supremacist stuff. I mean learning the language, studying the history, actually visiting the country one day, etc.
ОтветитьI’m honored you talked about my people. thank you Sunn ❤
Ответить100%.
ОтветитьIt was severe and exigent circumstances of urgent magnitude what facilitated us getting DF outta there, I dig the history and heritage but can't fathom why some of us are so batshit obsessed with the leprechaun over the top idealism of all things Irish.
But like yeah, don't eff with my potato.
I'm a red headed Catholic Irish woman and am not still sitting on the "poor me seat", 🇮🇪💚 Where were ALL of you guys when our Ancestors fought for 800 years and to the present day mmmm. Have a nice 800 years, or the years that you deserve. 😂🇮🇪
ОтветитьFor the very reasons you stated I’m a proud Irish American. I grew up in a old Irish settlement. I was educated by my elders on the struggles their ancestors faced here. The coffin ships. The racism. The anti Catholic rhetoric that I still hear to this day. For the strength and struggles my ancestors endured I am forever grateful and truly proud. 🇮🇪
Ответитьi think the big missing piece of the puzzle is that many people just dont know or understand about the formation of the white ethnic identity in america.
Ответитьi was born and raised in america but most of my family is from ireland and i’m trying to learn more about irish history and culture, do any of you guys have recommendations on books or websites to read?
ОтветитьIt was nothing to do with colour 😂christ almighty.
ОтветитьWell said 😂😂
ОтветитьThe Irish were Catholic that’s why they were discriminated against. It had nothing to do with “whiteness “.
ОтветитьFor American Irish people, when the potato famine happened around 1.5 million Irish people immigrated to the US. The influx of immigrants stretched resources and job opportunities. Now add that with the fact that a lot of Irish people were Catholics and you have a recipe for the old school Christian Americans to not view the Irish as the same. In America the Irish were simply not liked because of taking jobs and resources and religious differences. I’m still learning about the English and Irish feuds. My old boss was from Ireland he would tell me stories about the IRA and the English from when he was a kid. It is wild. My great grandfather immigrated from Ireland and landed on Ellis island in NY. People don’t really talk about what the Irish actually went through as a group of people wether in America or in Ireland itself. But though they weren’t considered white they still looked the same as today!
ОтветитьIrish were so cool- they got their own race- and nearly their own side of the bus too 😎
ОтветитьAmericans trying to make every other countrries black 😂
ОтветитьHow the term 'white' belongs to Jewish people, I will never know
ОтветитьYou can't call any Irish a yank... It's disrespectful Yanks we're British
ОтветитьIf they were black why not just write no black why add the word Irish
ОтветитьIrish people were always considered white…. The problem was they were catholic, spoke Irish Gaelic, possessed land that the English wanted, etc. etc. it’s not that they weren’t seen as white it’s that they were seen as not English
ОтветитьMy family is from Ireland we have been here a couple generations , it has always amazed me how little we kept from our culture after coming here, it gives me hope to see people starting to bring history to public view. Thank you.
ОтветитьHave a read of the book " To Hell or Barbados " about the "indentured servants " essentially slaves in the West Indies ..and the treatment they got ... the records kept etc... horrible stuff
ОтветитьWhy does it bother him so much
ОтветитьMan I’ve been saying this for years and people think I am crazy! The Irish although “free” arrived in the states on slave ships as indentured servants and I know it is not the same thing as slavery but it’s getting awfully close to it! Especially when they were abandoned in the Caribbean for years at a time. The railroad ended that for the Irish but all of it was bad!! Great short! Ty
Ответить“Irish need not apply”
ОтветитьWe are all “white” by skin but Irish like my family who came through Ellis Island weren’t considered white but an inferior drunken Irish
ОтветитьHe's right in what he's saying but,
this is AI?
Nah bro, the Irish were always considered white and clearly are white. They were considered lesser but they were never considered “non white”. They were considered lesser due to political and religious beliefs. Source: Irish person
ОтветитьI’m an Born American 95 percent Irish n the other five is scattered nations I want to know more about my heritage
ОтветитьIn England they were considered lower than blacks.
They’re white but they’re the same as us. Honestly. I went to Ireland and as a black man I never felt uncomfortable. Best hospitality too.
Preach all my fellow Irish Americans listen to this man’s words for this is the truth we were treated like dogs when our ancestors hit the shores of America even less than a hundred years ago we need to support the new minority groups in the ways we never got before
ОтветитьLiterally because they were Catholic. Nobody NEVER thought they werent white. You literally have to be blind otherwise. Now you go have the day you deserve :)
Ответить"Have the day that you deserve" love that
ОтветитьWhat does a dyslexic racist hate?
Gingers
Irish Red haired Viking here.....Galway man.....Cathair na Gaillimhe 🇮🇪☘
ОтветитьThe Irish were considered white they were just looked down upon for pagan gods and having Viking ancestors. By the time of empires rise the Anglo peoples had formed a nation during war with the northmen and the Irish were seen as bastard descendants of them. As the centuries went on the Irish remained Catholic as the rest went Protestant which earned further loathing and the Irish resisted conquest which made the hated.
