Asvine C80 Compared to 017 & M8

Great comparison. I need to wait for C80 availability in Europe, hopefully brown-gold + stub will be available again. Maybe Asvine company will listen if you tell them to put more of them in production. 😀

And yes, it is a good thing that you are older than most of the pen reviewers. There's a difference between an enthusiastic young dude who has just started discovering fountain pens and believes "the more costly = the better pen" and someone who has used them for longer than most of us have lived.

Many thanks for the updated review and comparisons. I've ordered the blue-black C80 with a stub nib. My first choice, the stub version of the brown-gold, is already sold out. Looks like the C80 is going to be a very popular pen. Asvine has become my favorite pen brand from the land across the Pacific--I've been getting great use from my P20s and P36.

My C80 came today, and i love it!
I have10 Fuliwen 017's, all inked. Its my havourite pen... Until today

Visual aspects aside, the Fuliwen 017 acrylic, the first batch, is one of the silkiest I have. The touching is unique. You miss it when it's not in rotation.

Got mine yesterday. What immediately came to mind was how much it looks like a clipless Esterbrook Estie. In fact, side my side with an Oversize Estie, they ware virtually indistinguishable outside of the missing clip and lack of the word "Esterbrook" on the cap. Uncapped, the c80 is much longer and the nib is (of course) much bigger. Really a good looking pen.

I had the 017 in a resin that was called Harbor Lights. It has since found residence withu son who liked the colors. Whether he uses it is another matter.

I do like the 930 a lot. Yes, I had to adjust to the size of the nib but it is such a wonderful writer and the construction is great.

The Asvine #8 nib is another marvel. No, it is not bouncy but extremely smooth on paper and does reverse writing well. I have the Medium nib. Depending on the paper, I can flip the nib to use paper like what is found in a Moleskin notebook without feathering or bleeding as the Asvine nib is pretty wet

The asvine looks great, I like big fountain pens. It looks like a good pen for eyedropper. Do you think it can be done?

Thanks for the comparison. Interesting that the 017 came out in more versions since last time I looked. I have 4 of the older styles for many years now. However, It features a #6 Nib, not a #5 as mentioned in the video. And it can be easily swapped for other #6 Nibs for example from Jowo. This gives a lot of options to customize. It is in my opinion a solid pen. It used to be much cheaper however.

The M8 looks like a Sheaffer Balance Ebonized Pearl, very pretty!

Ive been getting a few of their pens as well they are actually really really good and the price is affordable. Very smooth nibs if you get their factory ones.

This is an interesting comparison, with Fuliwen especially. I have two metal Fuliwen pens that I am very happy with. Yes, they are heavy but I don't mind. I thought the shimmery blue Fuliwen is especially nice.
