Have the Colts Had The Worst Luck at QB? Kay Reacts to GM Chris Ballard's Spicy Comments

I also want to touch on the Colts a little bit here…because GM Chris Ballard spoke yesterday after Indy finalized their 53 man roster…and things were getting a little spicy. He was asked why he’s the right guy for the job despite the lack of playoff success in his first 7 years, and here’s what he had to say…

There were some Colts fans and media members who did not love this answer…and while I totally get the frustration that the team hasn’t gone super far under Ballard…and I’m not trying to make excuses…it really is hard to have worse freaking luck at the QB spot than what’s happened to him.

He had the Andrew Luck injury out of the gates, the surprise retirement after that…and then – I think Ballard was a victim of his own roster improvements – they weren’t bad enough to land a top 5 pick and get their QB for the future as they cycled through aging vets until things blew up in 2022. Then they finally get their guy in Anthony Richardson, and **HE** gets hurt right away…and by the way they **STILL** end up at 9-8.

2024 will mark the 9th straight season in which they’ve had a different QB lead them in passing than the one they had the year before. Just think about that. 9 YEARS. And yes, bad luck aside…part of that is on him. There’s no denying that. But this is the first time they’ve been in the position to find a long-term option at QB and I think he deserves a shot to see what he can do with that before we get the pitchforks out.

And I do think he has the right coach to get it done with. I don’t think Shane Steichen gets talked about enough. Just listen to what Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor told me at camp…
