There's no way it takes more than a couple to several top tier programmers to maintain it. Do that full time and offer bounties for essential contributions from anyone else. How does it cost more than a couple mil annually to keep a web browser top tier? All it has to do is render documents. There's something ill with management if losing their top financial contribution deal leaves them with fifty times the amount needed for their core project so they respond by gimping it. $500k annual revenue should be more than enough, if that is sustainable.

Does that mean that all firefox based browsers like zen, floorp will essentially start acting like chrome in a sense of securing users data with new firedox update?

The main issue is the lack of a real profit motive and increasingly out of touch and greedy leadership. While there is benefit to being a non-profit, it doesn't create efficient wealth creation, and by wealth, I mean stuff of value, not money. Mozilla has been just wandering around coming up with dumb products that are just copy cats with no improvements. Going into a space with an existing competitor is not bad, but if you aren't offering something better, you aren't actually doing anything of value. Mozilla needs to innovate on their browser, and if possible maybe move to creating paid extension services. This would allow them to gain even more market share and not be limited to just Firefox (Although they could just embed certain features/pre bundle the browser with them (activating them for a fee of course)). Pocket was great! They need to think beyond just syncing a few things here and there, though.

What about an extension for light image editing in the browser when copy/paste or uploading/downloading (with a cloud save function)? If you're on social media a lot on your desktop, I can see this being popular with Gen Z. You don't have to be gimp or photoshop or krita. But just the ability to clean up some images or make a meme on the fly without leaving the browser or going to some sketchy meme generator would be fantastic!
And in the grand scheme of things this wouldn't even be that hard to implement when compared to a browser

This is just one idea I had off the top of my head. There are a ton of potential things they could do!

Mozilla! Stop shooting yourself in the foot!

Their current income isn't enough for their employees ❌
Their employees are way too many for what it's worth ✅

To solve mozzila issues I'd go the twitter/X route, fire 1k7 out of the the 1k8+
I really don't think it's required to have 2k people leeching to maintain a 2% market share browser.

I don't see the problem. There are many forks of Firefox to which the EULA doesn't apply. I'm using Librewolf for example. Since Firefox is open source, its development will continue. The stupid people will continue to use Firefox, which will pay for the continued development. The educated users will use a Firefox fork, which still guarantees some privacy.
It's just like with Android. The stupid guys who use Google Android pay for its further development with their data, the educated users will use an AOSP fork like Lineage OS on their phones and will not be affected by the evil stuff Google does with Android.
To maintain your privacy requires effort. Those who don't put in this effort will become slaves of the big corporations, the clever ones will be able to enjoy up-to-date technology without submitting to the corporations.

I stopped listening when you tried to explain that the money they get is not enough for their 1000 employees... This is absolutely not true! It is plenty enough for developing and maintaining a browser. It is not enough to spend on BS side jobs that makes executives rich and finance stupid activists campaigns! Mozilla is owned by a foundation - A NON PROFIT! F that hypocrisy! They spend billions on shady programs not on the Firefox web browser! And now they cry like babies that they can not spend on things that have nothing to do with FIREFOX WEB BROWSER! And people buy that nonsense? WTF?
Same as the "Linux Foundation" 2% on kernel development 98% on BS and cry they have no money....

I expect the following from a browser: 1) resolve security vulnerabilities, 2) implement and stay up to date on web standards, 3) eliminate / minimize tracking, 4) minimize memory usage. Other than that I do not really desire innovation.

I said this before and I will say it again the people running Firefox are idiots. They had a golden opportunity to really compete with Google because people were upset about the you block fiasco and we're ready to switch to Firefox but instead of capitalizing on it they go and mess with their terms of service and get everybody angry with them. Morons.

Firefox and means also Mozilla had only 2.7% and only selling point for them is privacy, but somehow Mozilla forgetting about it. Instead focusing on different things like AI. Whit all their decisions wont be surprise if market share will go down to 1.7% by end of year and if so it could be end to foundation.

I really miss the days when Firefox was just a basic browser out of the box, and anything you wanted additional, you used an extension. Go look at pictures of version 1. Just the basic functionality you need, nothing else. I LOVED it. I was a huge Firefox fanboy, until it got super slow and Chrome came along.

The problem is browsers are so relatively mature there's basically no way to make anyone switch. Firefox was successful in the early 2000s because IE was slow, unstable, had security issues, and firefox was competent and usefully extensible. It was a no brainer. Today there's no practical reason to switch and very few people are willing to make software choices based on ideology, I'm a computer hobbyist and my approach tends to pretty quickly revert to "whatever bro as long as it works", most people begin at so far beyond not caring something barely worth mentioning

After reading some Reddit threads it turns out mozilla had been sharing data to Google through it's default search engine. They had to update the whole we didn't sell your data because mozilla is literally being paid by Google for half a billion dollars and california laws forced their hand. So yea all this time firefox was getting off on a technicality and they still refuse to acknowledge the quid pro quo setup they have with google.

If you remember and abide by the fact that statism is the root of all evil, things then can be alright. Thank you and you're welcome for truth, today. If you really want to ask me how I know, have at it, but keep your pants on tight.
