I agree with you. The V8 is tried and true. I made the best decision, when I bought my truck with the 5.0.. No leaks, no oil burning and after putting in new spark plugs, I could have gone another 100-105 on those factory installed spark plugs. Love my Coyote!!

Great review, enjoyed. Turbo engines are the way to go for towing. Travel trailer up to 5000# the 2.7L is good, watch the payload rating, you will easily exceed payload capacity. the 2.7L has a light duty frame. Owned a 2018 f150 2.7L loved it, payload only 1375#. Upgraded to a 22 f150 3.5L payload 1822#, handles 24 foot 5726# GVWR travel trailer & all our stuff including 3500 watt generator, with ease. All 3.5L f150 are equipped with the medium duty frame - huge difference for towing. Most dealers, owners do not understand different motors get different truck frame ratings. Surprisingly fuel economy 2.7L to 3.5L small difference. Axle ratios make the biggest difference for highway fuel economy. And most important with any modern motor: for longevity, reliability change the oil & filter every 5k kilometers. SD.

Great video I’ve got a 2016 I’ve had to replace the turbo twice first time was my fault. Second time was probably my fault too because I bought a used one oil changes are a must on this vehicle.. I do have a question for you I moved to Tennessee about two years ago from California a lot more rain out here. My vehicle is a 2 Wheel Dr expedition XLT. When the ground gets wet, my car seems to want to do spin outs everywhere I go. I just changed out the ABS system to see if the tracking system on that was bad it’s still doing it. Do you have any idea why my back tires will spit out even when I’m not on it and I’m taking off at an easy speed please help. I’ve been dealing with this for two years and nobody here seems to know why Thank you..

I allow my 2021 3.5 to warm up, or give the oil a chance to get through the motor before driving. 30sec-1min.
Change my oil with Amsoil Signature Series every 3,000 miles.
Also, I bought a Suction Tank to drain the Transmission and Frt Axle, also changed the Transfer Case and Rear End Oil ..all Amsoil.
Changed plugs and boots as well. I over maintain all my equipment and very seldom have an issue in my 53 years of driving.
Oils cheap!

The main reason I’m looking into the 3.5 is because the 5.0 has the cylinder management. Is this more reliable than the 5.0 with cylinder management. I currently have a 6.2l gmc and it’s a nightmare because of the cylinder deactivation

Bought a 2011 Lariat w/ 3.5L ecoboost w/3.73 gear and 6speed. 42k mileage when purchased. Owned it for a daily driver for over 8yrs. Warranty work done for moisture in the intake which caused hesitation. T.s.b. performed(pcm flash and cover plate installed on intercooler). Heard the cam phaser noise about around 50k. Took it in a dealer could not reproduce the noise. Heard it again after warranty was out. Said to myself well I’m all in now. Conclusion= Put 150k+ on this engine. 195k still going strong until it was t-boned at a red light and truck was totaled. Would hear the noise only if oil change was behind schedule. Change before and service this engine a bit early, not the recommended 6k and they are amazing!!!!

I have two Ford F150s /
2017 and 2018 !
I do not recommend the eco-boost series to anyone !
This was a designed flaw with Ford and should’ve had a recall… 😢
Ford will not do the right thing costing each owner $2000-$3000 each! 😮
People are avoiding these Ford pick up trucks ! 😂

Ive got a 22 3.5l eco. So far it's awesome. So strong and smooth. I've actually heard the 5.0l has more issues than the newer ecos. I do start the truck as soon as i get in and then arrange myself, seat belt, etc. And let the engine idle while i unbuckle and collect my stuff, put up the sunshade so it can cool down, This engine is so powerful i never have to rev it up to get her to move.

Historically Ford has been terrible at fixing known defects. My 2019 3.5EB had several issues including the cam phaser issue at 40,000 miles. I have dealer do first oil change at 2000 miles and then change oil religiously every 5000 miles. My 2022 truck is at 32,000 miles and so far has had no issues.

If you’re having issues with the cam phaser slap, depress and hold the accelerator pedal all the way down while turning the key. Vehicle will not fire during fully depressed pedal, allowing the oil pressure to build and eliminating the timing chain slap!

If you're towing you can't beat this truck.. I tow a 7000 lb camper in the mountains and it has no problems at all with it... it'll even accelerate uphill on a 6% grade from 60 mph if I need it. .. try that with your 5.0...

Hey @TheGettyAdventures watching this video as I have been experiencing horrible reliability with the driver side E-IWE along with constant issues with metallic grind noise. Took the truck back to the stealership for the 3rd time, they replaced the front center differential found chunks of metal in the diff, cracked tooth on pinion. This truck is mainly road only with towing being 1-4 times a year <5k pounds easy tow. When getting the differential replaced truck threw a CEL for oil pressure sensor. So I am pretty much going to turn this truck in due to the constant issues of which I haven't experienced those you mention here. Which provide me a bit of concern. Cross shopping a replacement of it with a 1500 RAM. Have you done a review of the 5.7 tundra? If not, I think that would be a great add to your channel. Really enjoy your videos.

I own two of the first gens and let me tell you... if you're capable of working on your own stuff, it's amazing, but the shop bills will kill you if you outsource the labor. Anyways. The most important thing on these is to change your freaking oil and to keep the coolant clean, and I can't stress it enough. As the man said, the turbos are subject to unimaginable abuse on daily basis, and your oil also acts as hydraulic fluid for the cam phasers. On top of that, the valvetrain has no lifters or cam followers or anything like that, but it uses DAMB tappets instead, so essentially they're these metal cups that sit directly on top of your valves pushing them down whem the cam lobes push them down. There are no roller bearings of any kind involved in the setup, so the only thing keeping your cams from digging into the tappers is lubrication. I do my oil every 3k miles with Kirkland 5w30 and I use the OEM oil filters (FL-500S). On top of that, I give them new OEM air filters with every second oil change and new OEM spark plugs every 4 oil changes. Excessive? Sure, you can say that if you want, but the plugs are cheap and ridiculously easy to change. Both trucks now live happily with well over 100k miles on them, and both got new timing sets, phasers, phaser solonoids, water pumps, belt tensioners, belts and turbos when they hit 100k miles. Why? Because 100k miles of daily towing in the hills deserves some appreciation and I'd rather just get it over with than have to chase those problems sooner than later. Oh and if anyone's looking for a FACTORY NEW first gen 3.5 EB, you can order that directly from ford. They still use those in the transit vans. :) the part number is pk4z6006b, and it's around $1,500. Hope that helps someone!
