For those who have travelled, you might have experienced the infatuation. I met a beautiful German woman in the hostel in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I was backpacking for three months around Europe and she was on a similar trip, we met in the dorm. I was on my first night in the hostel and she was on her last, we got talking and ended up hanging out all day; we walked up to Ljubljana Castle and she rested her head on me as I pointed out the Alps you could see in the distance, we went to Spar and she cooked for us. Ended up at a nightclub that night where we danced and we kissed. As we sat on the steps in the Old Town at 3am as the sun was starting to come up I was in that "this is the love of my life" while forgetting she's leaving. I was smitten in that place and I even dreamed about her; when I woke up she was gone - everything. She left me a simple note wishing me all the best and to enjoy my trip. I remembered I didn't get her surname, ask for her social media or phone number. Depressed me madly for days! I was going to keep the note she wrote but I had to bin it when my back got absolutely soaked in a rain storm as I was walking to the hotel in Sremska Mitrovica.

This scene was so influential to me..I remember replaying this scene in my head over and over - even tried recreating this scene on dates with girls..The music, the cinematography and the narration from Richard - have resonated with me for such a long time...Amazing movie! 10/10

Never grasped how deep the end of this scene was until I took a step back and thought about the woman I always wanted to be with seems silly if one was to see her and have the chance to to speak with her you’d realize there’s millions of guys that would/are infatuated with her

Ummm...she does wind up sleeping with him.

Such an underrated movie

This scene is clever.

The dreamy aesthetic tricks even the viewer into thinking what Leo is saying is mesmerising and beautiful. We can imagine ourselves saying the same thing, or falling in love with someone saying it in that moment.

But in reality, if you listen to what he is saying, its silly and shallow. The sort of thing a 14 year old would find deep, but a physics professor would roll their eyes at.

The overall effect is to take you on a mini lovey-dovey rollercoaster that ends with the shocking conclusion of her interruption. That its pretentious bullshit. As if that weren't enough, we then get an explanation of our silliness we just went along with, in the form of Leo's monologue, which gives us that little nugget of wisdom about not choosing life partners based on a few romantic moments.

The moral of the story: the way we fall in love is not conducive to choosing a good a life partner, because rationality goes out of the window when love enters the scene.

An underrated movie I say.
